28 Feb Symbol blockchain news update – 28/02/22
Welcome to Monday’s Symbol Blog update. The world seems like a sombre and scary place to live at the moment. I am not old enough to remember a time when there was the threat of nuclear war hanging in the background and I am really worried about how the situation in Ukraine could escalate. It is already an absolutely tragic situation and a pointless war. I can’t imagine how it must feel to be living in Ukraine at the moment and feel deeply for the families that just want to get on with their everyday lives. People all over the world will suffer financial hardship, especially the Russian people have been caught up in Putin’s madness, nobody wins here. Now the western world worries about what the deranged man in charge of the largest nuclear arsenal in the world will do next. It inconceivable that one man’s evil can touch so many innocent lives.
Sad hopeless times and I really struggle to focus on anything else at the moment. I will try to write something today but it all feels a bit pointless in the grander scheme of things.

If you have something that you can spare to help the people of Ukraine then please consider making a donation. They don’t accept XYM but you can donate XEM to fund relief aid through Kuna Exchange. They also accept donations in Bitcoin, ETH and others. I haven’t donated yet as I need to sell some XYM into another currency to fund it but will do this later today – unprecedented times I have never sold any of my precious XYM before.
EDIT: Sold my first XYM and donated 7000 XEM to the fund. Hopefully it will be a small help.

Exchange rumours
Take this with a large pinch of salt as I have zero evidence to back it up but it appears that XYM has appeared in the past price search in Coincheck so could this be an early indicator that a listing might be on the cards? Maybe, but then again maybe not 😁 Let’s hope that we see a listing soon!
Symbol and NEM Twitter community
This is interesting. We now have a Captain’s Log on Twitter. Hatchet is considering adding the daily team updates here I hope in addition to on Discord too. I guess having it on Twitter would make translation for our Japanese friends easier and reach out to those that are stuck in the past and don’t like Discord so I think it is a good thing 😊 Sign up if you haven’t already – there aren’t many members currently.
One million blocks
This is a big milestone for Symbol and shows how quickly time flies. We reached our millionth block anniversary over the weekend congratulations Symbol! 🥳
The wolf to get a new look
Nice! It looks like Tresto will be getting a new avatar designed by the pirate team! This is super cool and well deserved since he is a pillar of the community! 😊
Baha is the latest team member to be blessed with an awesome avatar – love it! 😍

The metaverse expands
I missed this – sorry I couldn’t make it! I think it would have cheered me up too. Looks like you all had a fantastic time though. From what I could gather some people had trouble getting in as it was so crowded and other people’s computers struggled with the sheer number of people present at this meetup in virtual XYM City. Love to see the community coming together, it put a smile on my face when life was getting me down.
I mentioned above that the team are designing avatars for community members. It seems like the community are returning the favour by designing avatars for the pirate crew – here’s Gimre, nice work @Rei0_018_!

OK, that was tough to write and I probably wasn’t as upbeat as usual so please forgive me. I hope to be back soon in a more positive mood to bring you the latest news on Symbol and NEM. In the meantime I hope that you and your families are all safe. Let’s hope we see peace returning to Europe soon.
