Symbol blockchain news update – 17/11/21

Here’s Wednesday’s Symbol Blog update and I’m going to get straight on with it as I have a super busy day/week/month ahead. Still need to keep up with my blog writing though!

Block rewards

Public service announcement: I missed this until after I posted yesterday and I managed to get a harvest! Just to let you know that the harvesting rewards have reduced as of block 697,799 to 168.343336 XYM. The rewards are split between the harvester (70%), the node (25%) and the sink address (5%) – read more here. This means that if you are delegating to a node you will now receive a reward of 117.8403352 XYM for every harvest which is a reduction of 5.2791634 XYM from the previous reward level.

Article suggestions

Nice! @Jaguar0625 has signed up for the NEM Advent Calendar event and will be writing some articles! He is looking for some inspiration and wants to know what we as a community want to hear about. Let him know in the thread below if you have any suggestions – this is a great opportunity to squeeze some information out of an elusive individual who holds the future of Symbol and NEM in his hands 😁

I’d like to contribute to the event but I have no idea what I would write about at the moment. If I get a flash of inspiration and there is still a slot left at that point then I will give it a go..

By the way Pirates/Captains, Symbol Blog is always open to you to post articles and I can set you up with an author account if you ever want to make a guest post 🙂

My kind of sign

As a huge fan of both Symbol and of bars I love this! Very cool digital neon signs ready for XYM City. Looks nice as if it belongs in a seedy dive bar, just how I like them 😆 Great to see so much amazing artwork around – feel free to tag me if you have anything that you would like me to share on the blog!

Pirate treasure

You probably know if you are a regular reader that I am a big fan of @sakamotometal and these caught my eye recently. The first is a 24 karat solid gold XYM coin which I want really bad but would get in trouble with my wife and my credit card company if I was to buy it. Very cool though..

The second I don’t know much about but it looks as if the coin will have a QR code that will be linked to an actual Symbol account address and it will support multisig!

Oh, just checked his Twitter and it seems like this is the case and it is now up and running! Physical Symbol coins linked to actual XYM – that’s pretty cool 😎

A reminder

The Harlock fork is nearly upon us so make sure your node is updated and running either v0.6.98 or v0.6.99! If you are a harvester delegating to a node then make sure that you are delegating to one that supports the Harlock fork!

All looking good so get ready to celebrate another successful fork on Thursday (depending on your timezone!) 😁

Y tho? 😂

Just a reminder from Hatchet, don’t ask why the price of Symbol and NEM are going down today. It is pretty obvious 😁 I actually bought a few more XYM today, as I realised that I got a 100 STX in an airdrop forever ago that was now worth over $200 – score! 🥳 Anyway, thought I would sell these and buy some more XYM, can never get enough. Now just have to wait until Gate.io start processing withdrawals again so I can boost my importance a little. Their withdrawal fee seems excessively high by the way, maybe I should have used KuCoin instead. Wen Binance tho Hatchet? 😂

EDIT: there’s a follow up

I couldn’t agree more – contribute.

Thanks!

Thanks for reading and again if you like the blog then please share and spread the word. Even better if you would like to harvest on my node then it would be massively appreciated! Just select xymharvesting.net as a custom node in your Symbol wallet.
