I am getting a bit ahead of myself as the first post was made on the 18th of June 2021 but I’m putting it out early since I probably won’t have time to write anything tomorrow. So:

I can’t believe that the blog has been going for one full year already! It has been a labour of love and tough at times to fit in with other commitments but I’ve had a great time and feel like I have really connected with the Symbol and NEM community. I wanted to write a long and meaningful post to mark this occasion but as usual, time (job) is against me so it will have to be a regular update – sorry guys! 😬

Keep calm and carry on

I just wanted to publicise this Discord post from Hatchet for any of you that are not active in XYM City but do read the blog (is there anyone in this camp still?). It’s great to hear that the pirate captains have been preparing for the bear market (and general global catastrophe) for a while now. Symbol and NEM are in a good position financially and have funding to last several years yet. In Hatchet’s words “we are fine”. That’s a genuine statement by the way, not the “fine” I hear at home sometimes 😁

It’s also good to hear that the cleanup work is almost done, although that simile made me wince – ouch 😬 The rocketship is coming soon and we will be leading the charge in the next bull market. I’m super excited to see what is in the pipeline, it will interesting to look back on this stage in our development in a few years’ time. I can’t wait to be that guy that says “I told you so” to all of the doubters 😂

XYM Comic

If you haven’t seen it yet then go read the latest edition of XYM Comic as it’s a good one! 😊 I’m a big fan of this whacky Japanese manga and the artwork is spectacular – @toujoumina the artist is super talented! This is episode 4 and there are weekly releases so keep an eye out for the next one, follow @xym_comic and catch up with the previous editions if you have missed any.

I feel the need. The need for speed!

So, I have to admit I am not 100% sure of the full story here. For sure @curio184 has invented a device that measures the speed of something and adds results that it measures to the Symbol blockchain. Reading into the Japanese auto-translation I think that it is used to measure pitching speed for baseball? Perhaps so you can practice your throwing and see how your fastballs are improving over time. Sorry, I know next to nothing about the sport, I have been to a couple of games in the US but they are a bit of a blur, I remember hotdogs and beer more than the game itself 😁

It’s pretty cool anyway, there is so much inventiveness and innovation in the Japanese community. I love seeing what weird and wonderful applications for Symbol they will come up with next! 😊

Don’t forget to bring a towel 👀

Not only does this towel remind me of the Symbol logo but it also has something vaguely 1970’s about it. I think I might set up a “things that look like Symbol” gallery on the blog and ask for community submissions, I am sure that there will be some good ones! 😊

Hangover Thursdays

Looks like I wasn’t the only one out on a work night this week! 😁 Good to see some community members meeting up and supporting local businesses who are accepting Symbol payments! @RadioRa26841511 it seems that you’ve always got a drink in hand! I like your style 😆

They earnt themselves some loyalty points in the process too. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me!

As for me, my wild midweek jaunt went downhill when I discovered that they sold beer in two-pint cups and I woke up with a sore head the next day. Why do hangovers get worse as you get older? They need to invent a cure for this. I didn’t earn any Symbol Shop Points but it was a fun night! 😊

I must be a fan of geriatric rock as we are off to see the Rolling Stones next weekend. They will make Guns n Roses look like spring chickens when we see them in July 😁

Goody bag

I think that this package was sent to Hatchet earlier in the year but bounced back in the mail. It looks like @x_matsuno is looking for additional community contributions for some NEM/Symbol swag before the package is resent and divvied up between the pirate captains.

    Really appreciate for holding the fort.
    With all the official websites gone, you remain as the only source of news in the xym world.
    Btw, could you tell me what happened to the Nem group and how everything was dismantled? Do you have any scoop about what happened behind the scenes?
    I think I read somewhere announcing it, but I can’t manage to find it.
