Symbol blockchain news update – 15/02/23

A belated happy Valentine’s Day to all (and thank you onem for the message 😄). Apologies for the late update this week, I have been keeping my head in the books and also in the clouds brainstorming crazy ideas. Anyway, just when I thought I couldn’t face writing any more, it is time for my weekly Symbol Blog update! 😁

Consensus explained

So I haven’t really kept up with this but I know that there was some discussion in the Japanese community about finalisation and voting nodes which resulted in some clarifications from Jag and Hatchet. Just to clear things up once and for all, Gimre has just posted an excellent Twitter thread on different consensus mechanisms, how they work and how theoretically they can be attacked. It’s a short but interesting read so please have a look!

TokenLive goes mobile

I’m not sure that I have written about TokenLive on the blog before but it is a streaming service offering gated access to token holders for a particular live-streamed event. The idea is as simple as it is ingenious and I should probably write a longer introduction to the service at some point. Anyway, previously the service had to be accessed on a computer but now it is mobile-compatible. It looks as if it is still browser-based rather than being a standalone app, however, it is optimised for the smaller screen size.

The four levels of community support

Here’s a poll that Jag is running which is probably a little tongue-in-cheek 😁 I fall into category 3 but I would be a 4 if I had the required stake which is a pretty high barrier to entry for most. Where do you sit in the ranking?

PS: If you’re a 1 then you should probably keep quiet, you won’t do yourselves any favours 😉

CryptoBeliever’s box of tricks

If you are looking to track your harvesting history on NEM and Symbol out of curiosity or worse tax reasons 😬 then this is the tool for you! It is crazy fast and will return the amount earned in XEM or XYM as well as the equivalent fiat value (in multiple currencies). What’s more, it now includes NEM Supernode payouts and it is lightning fast ⚡️

Hatchet needs help

Hatchet is looking for help in defining what blockchain features are important to games developers, I know that there are a few of you out there and we would love to get your input here. She’s also curious about what the popular coins are in Japan, if you can help with either then let her know in these posts:

It’s that time again

I didn’t notice this but Tresto is the bearer of bad news for all you harvesters out there. the quarterly reduction to harvesting rewards happened recently so you will get slightly less as a harvesting and beneficiary reward than you did last week (it’s not much of a difference though and it is still “free” money! 😊).

More sponsors

It seems that there are new sponsors of the NEM Hackathon coming every week! NEWRON and withB have joined the party and now join the list of official sponsors – welcome to the world of Symbol!

Hard work and determination

Wow! This is some serious dedication! 1,090 floors of The Tower complete! They are some crazy character stats, I wonder how long this took you! 😁

Thanks!

OK, thanks again guys for reading. I will be back again next week with another update and until then have fun! 😊
