Monday again and it’s starting to feel like the countdown to the Christmas break. I really need some time off. Anyway, will have to be a hastily written post this morning so apologies for typos but hopefully I can bring you up to date on the weekend activities!

New wallet release

The team have been busy fixing bugs and adding new functionality and v1.0.9 of the desktop wallet is now available to download. Make sure that you update and are running the latest version!

Oh, I also forgot to mention Symbol Ledger app 1.0.6 has been released. I updated a couple of days ago, I didn’t initially see it but after I updated the firmware on my Ledger it appeared. I am not sure what changed exactly as I couldn’t find any changelog but make sure that you have the most up to date version installed – it is always good practice to do so.

Would also be great to see Symbol directly integrated into Ledger Live – looks like CryptoBeliver is on the case with this one 🦾

Exchanges (stop whinging)

This is very true and I have said similar many times in the past. Don’t sit there and complain, just because you own some XYM doesn’t give you the right to bitch about exchange listings and demand that things happen. Listings are not controlled by the core devs. Yes, they will work with exchanges but the decision of whether to list or not will always be down to individual exchanges.

What you can do is get involved in the community, help us grow, build something new on Symbol if you can. If not then contribute in another way – write, make some cool artwork, tweet about Symbol and try to raise awareness. There is a significant minority of the community that are really working hard to promote Symbol, they are doing this for everyone’s benefit so don’t be selfish, don’t make demands, get involved. The more of us that do the faster Symbol will gain recognition. It really pisses me off when people make demands and expect things when they have zero input and give nothing.

Big in Japan

This is great to see. It shows the share of trading volume of different crypto assets on GMO Coin. As you can see in November XYM accounted for 9% of all volume and had the fourth-largest share of any coin.

There always seems to be some Symbol related meeting, workshop or event in Japan and there is a real passion for learning about the technology rather than watching the price charts. I saw this over the weekend and I am not quite sure what the event was from the tweet but according to the translation it was an event called Hybrid business “Thinking about the future of donations with blockchain”.

Great to see people coming together and sharing their passion and curiosity. It just wouldn’t happen in the west at the moment, hopefully, one day I will be able to go to an event like in my own country. I think Hatchet also has high hopes for wider adoption too.

I guess we all know that Symbol is big in Japan (reminds me of that 80’s song) 😁 Let’s make it big everywhere else too!

Symbol/NEM 2021 questionnaire

I saw this nembear tweet and thought I would bring it to your attention. He is running a questionnaire looking for feedback on community contributions in 2021. I think that you can advertise your own contributions and vote for the people that you think have worked hard over the past year to promote Symbol. It is in Japanese but it is (mostly!) easily translatable.

Space whale!

@bestgoldangel has been at it again and produces this awesome piece of art. I have to say that Hatchet’s sketch is pretty great too. By the number of likes it has received I think that the community agree. Seems like the Symbol pirate ship uses a space whale propulsion system – why not?

Wallet redesign

Now, this looks cool! NexLev is working on a design for the Symbol wallet and this is 1000x better than the current bland-looking original NGL design. Can’t wait to see progress on this and for the newly designed wallet to be released. It is amazing what a good design can do to attract new users.

Free XYM!!

tsubasa_yozawa is distributing 20 XYM to new users as a result of his recent quest. I am guessing that all of my readers already have a Symbol account but if you know someone that doesn’t then pass this information on and encourage them to sign up. We want new people to use Symbol and grow the community so hopefully, this experiment will help with this.

Oh, and don’t go creating new wallets to get free XYM if you already have an account please!
