Symbol blockchain news update โ€“ 11/09/23

Good afternoon XYM City! The sun is shining here in the UK and I’m back with another Symbol Blog news update – happy days! ๐Ÿ˜

Tomatina

I think everyone had fun at the annual Symbol Tomatina event, I certainly threw a few tomatoes around ๐Ÿ˜ We certainly saw a large increase in the number of transactions sent with an average of ~70 txs per block!

Tomatina Square was responsible for many of these transactions apparently generating over 33,000 on the day – impressive!

According to my own stats there were over 55,000 transactions made on the day – that’s up from 33,628 for the event in 2022! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well done to all who were involved in the event and those that participated. I am sure we will see a repeat in 2024, let’s make sure that it is bigger and better next time!

MATIC Crane

MATIC Crane now has an English translation and according to this tweet, it allows you to win free XYM. I gave it a quick go and predictably I was really bad at it (I can’t tell you how many 100 Yen coins I wasted in the arcades last time I was in Japan ๐Ÿ˜‚). I think that it allows you to win tickets that can be traded for prizes or XYM and maybe you can win NFTs too? I am not 100% sure. Anyway, maybe you are luckier/more skilled than I am so give it a go!

Mosaic Viewer

Mikun is doing some great work at the moment and this new mosaic viewer is fantastic! Just enter a Symbol address and it will render all of the NFTs in the wallet. I know that it supports Mosaic Center, COMSA Unique and Bundle and also NFT Drive but perhaps others too – awesome! It is nice to see the images rather than just a mosaic ID in a wallet ๐Ÿ˜

EXYM aggregates

EXYM is still in development and by the looks of this Tweet it will support spreadsheet imports to build aggregate transactions sending funds to multiple addresses. I know many of you are using EXYM already but I don’t think that there is an official App Store release yet is there? If so let me know as I want to use it! ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ”๐Ÿคค

I didn’t know about Amber Angel but it looks like you can get a coffee and a delicious-looking burger and pay with Symbol. When will we see Symbol payment come to the UK?

Bye bye Bithumb

Well, it looks like Symbol was delisted from the Korean exchange Bithumb (boo Bithumb!). Hopefully, they will change their mind in the future and relist I assume all of these exchanges will list Symbol as soon as the trading volume increases and they know that they can make money from it.

Node numbers

This is an interesting plot showing the decline in the number of Symbol nodes over the last year. Obviously, the decreasing value of XYM will have played a large role in the decline in node numbers but it still paints a very positive picture. 800 of us are running nodes and we are not in it for the profit. Good work to all of you node owners and if you don’t yet have a node then check out symbol-shoestring and spin up your first node!

Symbol friendships

I think that this is very true. I have seen a lot of friendships blossom and real camaraderie between community members. There is a lot of passion out there I have really seen a huge difference – nobody is talking about price and instead they are talking about building, educating and having fun with Symbol. It’s a great community to be part of and I hope that we continue to grow.

Hatchet in Japan

I hope that you will be queuing for the traditional Christmas KFC dinner ๐Ÿ˜ I may also be visiting Japan a little earlier in the month so hope to meet up with those of you that I missed last time!

Thanks!

Thanks for reading. I will be back again soon with another update! ๐Ÿ˜Š
