01 Dec Symbol blockchain news update – 01/12/21
It’s Wednesday and we are into December already, not long to go now before some much needed time off! 🥳 Just a short post today but I guess everyone has been concentrating on the Harlock fork so other news is temporarily in short supply. Sure that when Hatchet is feeling better I will be struggling to keep up with everything again and these posts will get much longer 😂
Harlock fork passes! 🥳
Happy days! Yesterday saw the Harlock (Harlock the second?) fork pass with flying colours. I think everyone was a little nervy beforehand after the previous attempt but it all went smoothly in the end. Now NEM funds have been consolidated and moved out of the control of the Trust. NEM and Symbol are both now masters of their own destinies. The Harlock fork also signalled support for NEM to become a subChain of Symbol so welcome NEMbers to XYM City! 🙂
Unfortunately I ended up working through the celebrations and into the night yesterday so I feel a bit bad that I missed out on the fun. I will be raising a glass to Harlock tonight though and want to say a big congrats everyone that made this happen!
A surprise delivery!
I got a special delivery today! My “Wolf and Bear” Symbol T-shirt came all the way from Zoi Zoi in Japan! This really brightened up my afternoon, especially liked the handwritten note and it also came with badges and a postcard! Makes the shipping cost worth every penny Yen! 😊
I will be wearing the T-shirt tomorrow, may even break a habit of a lifetime and give it a quick iron first 😁 I think I may have made a mistake and thought I’d buy a size bigger just in case Japanese sizes are smaller. Turns out a large looks bigger than a UK large and I should have gone for a medium. Ah well, Christmas is coming and I am sure to gain some weight and fill it out 😆
NEM advent calendar
🎵 It’s the most wonderful time of the year… 🎵 Yes, that’s right, it is time to open the first door of the NEM Advent Calendar! It seems that this year there are 3 advent calendars!? It’s like when you were a kid and your parents and grandparents would all get you one and you’d end up with 3 times the chocolate 😋

As you can see there are some superstars of the NEM and Symbol world that are signed up to write so I am expecting big things! XEMbook (nem_takanobu) kicked us off with a post on “The impact of Symbol” and GodTanu provided an article “From Cryptocurrency to Future Infrastructure“. Both articles are in Japanese but Google Translate is your friend here 😊
There will be English posts coming – Hatchet is due to post her first article today too but really she should be getting some rest! 🤒 We don’t mind if it is a few days late!
And as you can see Jaguar0625, Gimre, several of the Pirate Crew as well as many prominent community members are all booked in to write articles as well. I don’t have anything special to write about but if I get some inspiration and some time then I guess there are still some slots available later in the month 😁

Finally I want to say a huge thank you to whoever donated to Symbol Blog yesterday! I know that you left a message but I can’t decrypt it since the account is on my Ledger and apparently this is a known issue. I was chatting in the XYMbassadors channel on Discord at the time the donation came through about how the blog is running really slowly at the moment and how I should switch to a better host. I am sure someone spotted this and made the donation. When I get some time in the new year I will have to move my hosting, I have no excuse now! 😁
