22 Dec Symbol blockchain news update – 22/12/21
So what should have been a relaxing couple of days turned into a bit of a disaster when my son’s nursery had another COVID outbreak. We are all fine thankfully but I had to kiss goodbye to my dream of catching up with videogames and do my dad duties instead 😭 Ah well, maybe I will get some time in another 16 1/4 years when he goes off to university and I have my Playstation 9 😂
This will likely be my last post for a few days as we are visiting family and I will be going a bit off-grid so I will try to catch up with what has been happening and write a longer post next week.
NEM Official – the discussion thread
Well, this ended up being great for me – I got lots of exposure for my last daily update as it turned into a discussion thread about the NEMofficial Twitter account! 😁 I urge you to read through this (sometimes heated?) discussion and see what you think.
I thought that we had a great resource in owning an account with over 337,000 followers and that we should be trying to utilise it more effectively. As it turns out apparently a lot of these were spammy paid accounts so that reach is, in fact, a lot lower than you might expect. Tresto and I were both of the opinion that perhaps more could be put out from the official Twitter but Hatchet explained that this has been tried in the past and doesn’t work. I don’t think that either of us was saying that we should spam the hell out of people with multiple daily posts, just that it is very quiet. I felt that without a website currently, communication and information can appear limited (I know we have Discord but this might not appeal to the casual observer). I know that this will all change soon with the new websites and more official news to shout about so I am not going to complain about it 😊
Anyway, I trust Hatchet’s judgement (she knows a lot more than I do on the subject!) and I also agree that the community themselves should be responsible for reporting on the day to day goings-on within the community. This is what we are all doing and will continue to do. I was however keen to see some signposting to community news resources somewhere (this doesn’t necessarily have to be on Twitter) as it might help us all get more exposure and grow our audience. If people know where to find the information then they will come and get it.
I am happy to trust and wait as I really do have high hopes for 2022. Hopefully, we will see lots of progress, new personnel (and a new website – please! 😁) in the nearish future.
I just saw that the thread has grown since I last read it. The key point is that we all want to grow Symbol and NEM outside of Japan, this is the a problem that we have never seemed to be able to crack. I hope that we start to see some progress over time but it looks like we need some fertiliser for the soil first. Symbol Blog will be ready to break out the Miracle-Gro in the new year 😉
Python SDK
Stay tuned because the new Python SDK is coming soon and it looks like it will be a major update (and will break your existing code 😅). I’ll report on this once I hear some more. I hope that there is some good documentation with this release 😁
Arcana wallet
Arcana wallet version 1.2 has been released and the following features have been added (apologies for and auto translation mistakes):
- Transaction notification
- Harvest with 1 tap
- Node operators can register own node
- QR issuance for payment (invoice)
- Slightly changed design
If you have an Android phone then go check it out! I don’t so I can’t 😭
Blockchain in research
According to Radio-Radio‘s translation on Discord. Associate Professor Tezuka of Gifu University is using the Symbol Blockchain for tracking and recording dental pulp stem cells, The story was featured in Chunichi a Japanese web newspaper. He’s been using blockchain for pulp cell traceability for several years, originally using NEM and now Symbol.
Good work! Nice to see blockchain applications in science!
NFT-Drive auction
I think that the winning bid on the NFT-Drive auction for this @mahorobart artwork was 13,579 XYM! Too rich for me but I love the image. I will have to make do with the black and white version that I got for free!
Symbol keyrings
Looks like our Korean community is getting in on producing Symbol merchandise too. Love this keyring, shiny! 😁
Thanks!
Thanks for reading, I apologise, this post was very rushed! Have a wonderful Christmas break and I will be back in a few days with another update!
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
