17 Nov Symbol blockchain news update – 18/11/21
It’s Thursday already and it is a big day for NEM with the result of the Harlock fork imminent! We have a few items to cover today so I am going to get straight on with it..
Harlock
Well today is the day of reckoning for the NEM Harlock fork. It looks like it will have enough support judging by the latest stats so happy days! Let’s hope that there is no last minute drama to spoil the party but it looks relatively comfortable (although not as strongly supported as the Cyprus fork last week).
Binance also announced that they will be supporting Harlock and upgrading their nodes 👍
Rewards for running a NEM node
The original tweet from @TrendStream points out that for regular mortals who don’t get supernode rewards there is almost no incentive to run a NIS1 node. How can we resolve this? Well Hatchet is looking for ideas. If you have any then join the discussion!
Oh there is an English tweet! Looks like there are internal discussions ongoing and plans may be revealed next month for changes to both NEM and Symbol voting rewards.
We may even get a sneak peek over the weekend so watch this space..
Updates!
Spotted this on Discord yesterday. There is a minor update to Catapult client and symbol-bootstrap along with a new version of the Symbol TypeScript/JavaScript SDK and the REST gateway. If you are a node owner then you might want to update – it is super quick and easy if you are using symbol-bootstrap.
NEM2-browserify Symbol Typescript SDK update
Following on from the previous story @xembook has released the latest version of nem2-browserify which uses the latest version (v1.0.3) of the Symbol TypeScript/JavaScript SDK. Fast work! If you want to find out more about how to use this then check out our articles here and here (which may now need an update) 😊
Shinkuma Lab
Looks like @nembear will be starting Shinkuma Lab which will support budding developers that are building on the Symbol blockchain. Great to see this new incentive. I am guessing this will run in parallel to the existing Shinkuma node support scheme.
NEM advent calendar
Well we reported on this briefly yesterday but it seems that there is a stellar lineup of participants in the NEM Advent Calendar event this year with
@Jaguar0625, @NCOSIGIMCITYNRE, Blackbeard, @Anthony14w, @sigsegvx and @0x6861746366574 all providing posts. If only I could get some of them to provide a guest post on Symbol Blog 😭
Also looks like there will be more news coming from Pirate HQ in December so I will report as soon as I know more..
Hermes
More cool mockups coming out of the Symbol Hermes wallet project. Can’t wait to see this released. Also this is a reminder if you hang out in the XYMCity Discord channel you will see updates on all of the current projects and discussion of future directions. It is a goldmine of information and it reminds me that I really need to be catching up on what has been going on over the last week!
XYM City
I said it above but I will say it again – get yourself on Discord! It seems that more and more of you are which is great! The numbers of active members seems to be steadily increasing but we need to keep building the community so spread the word far and wide and share this very cool Tweet from @bestgoldangel!
XYM City mugs
Cool! A XYM City mug 😀 Nice to see so much Symbol merchandise appearing all over Twitter at the moment. Maybe I should try my hand at this, are there any Symbol holders in the UK apart from me? I got distracted whilst thinking about this and went off and printed myself 4 different Symbol mugs. Apparently they will arrive on the 1st of December so I’ll take some snaps and put them on the blog 😁
Thanks!
Thanks for reading, I’ll be back again soon! Also just a shameless plug reminder if you are looking for a node to delegate to then please consider supporting Symbol Blog by harvesting on my node xymharvesting.net 😊
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
