Symbol blockchain news update – 10/01/24

Hello XYM City! I hope all is well and your New Year is off to a good start! I am back with another Symbol Blog update as promised though it looks like today’s post might be shorter than usual. I guess we are all getting back to business as usual after the holiday period 😁

A Symbol developer’s dream blog

If you haven’t checked it out already, Jag has started a new blog called catnotes. It is aimed at developers interested in Symbol and NEM and delves deeper into their inner workings and concepts behind them. There are also some guides to getting started with the Python SDK and using shoestring for node management so even if you are a beginner looking to learn more and experiment with Symbol and NEM it is a great resource. You also get an insight into Jag’s background and the beginnings of NEM and Symbol on the introduction page which I found fascinating – he let his impenetrable mask slip just a little bit 😂.

Symbol levies

Keeping in the techie spirit Toshi has just published an article showing how he implemented a levy in Symbol by adding new plugin and observer code to the Catapult client. Is this the first time that anyone other than Jag and Gimre has done this? Anyway, nice work as always – I will read in detail (probably many times) to try to understand the article 😁

Symbol apps

Just a reminder to check out the Symbol and NEM Community website. There are lots of excellent resources, articles and links to Symbol and NEM-related content on the web. If you are interested in some of the apps built on Symbol then check out this post. No excuses, it’s available in five languages!

Earthquake relief donations

I just saw this. Following the tragic events caused by last week’s earthquake in Japan NEMTUS opened a donation service where you can send XYM and/or XEM to help support victims. It looks like they have raised over 660.00 JPY but I think that donations are still being accepted here.

EXYM gallery

Hopefully, you will have heard about EXYM Wallet by now (if not see last week’s post). I just spotted that there is now a gallery available showcasing people’s wallet customisations. You can check out which themes each of your favourite Symbol community members are rocking and who designed them. Go have a look and see if you get some inspiration for your own theme. It’s great to see so much creativity in the community and I like the fact that everyone’s wallet is personalised, I need to get in on this. I don’t want to be seen with a default wallet design 😁

Quiz time

I think I have a good idea of what the answer is from being part of the Symbol Syndicate Discord server and looking at who else is there but even then I could be wrong 😅 Try your luck in this poll!

Thanks!

Thanks, as always, for reading! I will be back again soon with another update and hopefully some more in-depth articles for the blog at some point in the near future. Take cake and keep flying the flag for Symbol and NEM!
