05 May Symbol blockchain news update – 05/05/22
Hi everyone, hope that all is well out there for all of you XYM City residents! The sun is shining here and yet I am sitting in a dark office in front of a computer 😁 It’s been a couple of days since my last post so I thought it was about time for another Symbol Blog update!
NEM Supernode program reopening soon
So we knew that this was coming soon but it looks as if the revamped NEM Supernode Program (or as I would say programme) is just around the corner! 😯 Hatchet is looking for an image for the announcement and needs this within a two week timeframe. I am not guaranteeing that it will be launched in two weeks (you know that the team never give timelines) but I have a feeling that it is very close.
For those of you that haven’t heard of this before (you should be reading the blog!), the changes will mean that anyone with a balance of over 10,000 XEM will be eligible for a reward for running a NEM node that meets certain specifications. This is a huge change from the old supernode model which required you to hold > 3,000,000 XEM. Obviously 3M XEM is a huge barrier to entry for us mortals whereas 10K is a commitment but within reach of many.
I am really looking forward to this, I have my node up and running already and I also have my 10K XEM so fingers crossed I will be able to join the supernode programme. Just to pre-warn you, this will be a limited time only stopgap before a permanent solution is implemented in the form of block rewards (as seen in Symbol). This would mark a major update in NEM tokenomics and I have a feeling it will make XEM far more attractive for HODLers out there. Many of us will be wondering whether to move a chunk of our XYM back into XEM I am sure 😁

Post-opt-in continues (but not for long!)
Just another reminder, I am sure that if you are reading this then you will have opted in already and received your XYM allocation. If you held XEM at the snapshot date then you will be entitled to claim an equivalent amount of XYM for free by opting in. You can do this in your NEM desktop wallet and check your claim here. Hurry though as the process ends on the 10th May and after that date you will lose the right to claim forever.

A reminder from NEM Japan that if you are interested in Symbol or NEM then you really should be following all of the official Twitter accounts. They are a little quiet at the moment but I know that there will be some announcements coming soon so make sure that you are the first to hear the news. It would be great to get the follower counts up as it will show the world that we have a large, active community.

From hatchet to katana
This is some superb work, it looks like Hatchet has temporarily put away her hatchet and picked up a pair of katanas. Maybe it is time for a name change? 😁 Really like this, if you do too then you have a chance to bid on it at COMSA.

Saw a few of these today. It’s always nice to see some green in the charts (or maybe red for those of you in Asia? So confusing). I am a huge pessimist in real life but for some reason I am an eternal optimist when it comes to Symbol and probably crypto in general. I laugh in the face of a bear market, I actually think that things won’t be as bad as everyone else is predicting and we will see an upturn this year but as I said I am always wildly optimistic and perhaps a bit delusional when it comes to these things 🤪
Breakfast with Symbol
I skipped breakfast this morning but looking at this I think I might unskip it, it’s made me very hungry! Looks like Radio has been spending some of his XYM harvest at Sandwich Factory and this looks delicious. It breaks my heart that I can’t spend my XYM in the real world here in the UK. Looking forward to visiting Tokyo next year to attend the Symbol conference. I hope that we are making some progress with the venue and we will see a date announced soon. I want to sort out flights and accommodation – looks like it has turned into a longer family holiday and I want to book things whilst it is still cheap(er)!
