Symbol blockchain news update – 03/04/22

Hope you all had a great weekend! I know I have been quiet for a few days but I have a few stories to cover so I’ll try to catch you up on what has caught my eye in the Symbol and NEM world recently. I have the evening “free” as my wife is playing Elden Ring again and I am bored of watching her run around aimlessly on her horse “exploring’, I’ll wait for the boss fight(s) and then briefly switch from the laptop screen to TV, I also got a fancy new MacBook Pro for work 😮 – not really putting it through its paces by writing the blog but the keyboard is nice at least 😁

IoT development grant

Thank you Radio for sending this to me, I would have missed this otherwise (and if I had of seen it I wouldn’t know what it was about!) 😆 According to Radio’s description it looks like the Japanese blockchain company “Opening line” has been awarded a grant for development of an IoT data collaboration platform using blockchain technology. Apparently the Opening Line Representative Director Ryoichi Sasaki is also a vice-chairman of NEMTUS and although details have not yet been announced the hope is that this project will be built using Symbol 🤞

Food NFT – tracking taste on the blockchain

Thanks again to Radio for sending this my way. I have to say that I am still a little unsure on the details even after reading the English version of this press release (bottom the of page). If I understand it correctly a group known as “The Food NFT Consortium” has been set up to document and store standardised taste profiles and recipes(?) on the Symbol blockchain. I can’t translate the taste analysis image below but it looks a bit like a tasting wheel that you might use for wine, whisky or coffee tasting (if you are more sophisticated than I am! 😁).

The first Food NFT was created for a vegan chocolate called Medicalate™ – it would be interesting to see what these data actually looks like as all of this seems a bit over the top to me but maybe there is a genuine need for Food NFTs. I will keep an eye out and bring you more if/when I hear anything. It is great to see projects using Symbol though. I hope we will see this trend continue in the coming months.

Building a new economy

Hatchet seems to slowly be returning to Twitter 👀 This short thread is a commentary on exchanges and how they are not acting in the public interest and obviously are out to list coins that they think they will make the most money from, I guess they are businesses so can’t really blame them for that. I especially liked the final tweet – if we are aiming to start a new economy and provide “financial fabric for everyone” then perhaps there is a need to build our own exchange to facilitate this. Seems like a seed of an idea at the moment but I guess once the hiring spree is over the team will have a lot more capacity to drive current projects forward and to start thinking big in terms of what comes next.

More snapshot XYM to be distributed

Again, better late than never but Huobi Japan have really taken their sweet time with this one. Those with XEM in their accounts at time of snapshot (over a year ago!) will have the equivalent amount of XYM credited to them on the 13th April. If you were a customer then sorry – it sucks that you missed out on more than a year of harvesting income but it’s not long to wait now until you get your hands on your precious XYM 😊

More nodes join the metaverse

I reported on this last week(?) and explained that @ahikicoin had set up a cluster gallery displaying nodes from Symbol Node List. It looks like more nodes have been added (now up to 200) so I guess (hopefully) mine will now be there since my node is at position 110 when ranked by importance. I don’t have Cluster installed on my new laptop but will try to remember to check it tomorrow – I need a screenshot of my avatar in front of it. Judging by the video and my lack of skill it might be a while before I get there unless mine is on the bottom row 😂

More XYM City currency

I had already reported on the new 10 XYM and 10 XEM coins (they look amazing!) but @sakamotometal has confirmed that 5, 50 and 100 denominations will be joining them soon. I probably only have the budget for one 😭 but I am definitely interested in a XYM coin. I guess (or at least hope) that colour will be added at some point too – this will elevate them even further! 🤩

Special delivery

How cool is this? @bestgoldangel received this very elaborate Symbol T-shirt as a gift from @MTN_syndicate! Great to see the community being so generous and more and more awesome Symbol swag being designed by the artists out there.

XYM Gym

As Tresto says “all roads lead to muscles” and it looks like the XYM Gym is taking shape 😆 I have been to the gym once in my life and it was about 20 years ago so this will probably not be an establishment that I frequent in XYM City. I will definitely be a regular at his fried chicken shop though! 😂

Hatchet’s other hat

In another life Hatchet will be dropping her pseudonym, putting on her hard hat and presenting at Bitcoin 2022. I have not heard her talk before and would really like to watch this (even though it won’t be about Symbol or NEM). I guess it won’t be streamed for free but if it is then let me know!

Thanks!

Thanks for reading! I will be back again soon with another update, now I will go back to an evening of watching my wife play Elden Ring. We really need two TVs and two PS5s (and a bigger house to house them) – one day XYM, one day.. 😁
