Tweet update 09/07/21

Hi everyone! Welcome to another tweet update. It’s nearly the end of another working week and we have survived it! I am actually on holiday (vacation) next week so we may not have a daily update but I will take my laptop with me and try to post where possible even if it is after a few glasses of wine🍷 in the evening! 😅

Symbol harvest history in Python

Here’s an awesome spot from @eikcimickie! The original post is from @nobu_kyutech and links to a post here (in Japanese). The code is also available on Github and seems to be part of a larger project “Symbol Python training“. Each of the three examples in the series are provided as .ipynb files which can be opened and in Jupyter Notebook so please check it out. If you know even some basic Python then you should be able to work out exactly what is going on thanks to the universal language of coding! 😁

I have looked at the Symbol Python SDK in the past but didn’t do anything with it up as I couldn’t find any thorough documentation – maybe I missed it though (please send me a link if I did!). Anyway, this is exactly what I needed to get going and pick up some basics – thank you @nobu_kyutech!

I fancy looking into this in a bit more detail, experimenting and maybe making a post in English about it in the near future. I am adding this to my article to do list whilst writing this sentence. I really need more hours in the day. Why do I have to have a day job?

School of NEM

Today’s first lesson from @SchoolofNEM is about one of my favourite topics, harvesting. With Symbol, when you are delegating to a node, the node operator will receive 25% of the rewards when you successfully harvest a block. This benefits the node operator and helps them to cover costs running costs (i.e. monthly server costs and time to maintain the node). This process of rewarding the node owners ensures the sustainability of the public network.

Thanks @Niashabid17 for sending in this tweet. I didn’t know this but apparently a NEM based payment system called Snemops or “Smart Nem Order Payment System” was launched in February 2019. These things should get more coverage in the English speaking world! I am glad that we are at least trying to cover some of these topics and report them now (better late than never right?).

It would be great to get the original article translated and find out a bit more about this project. Has it been adopted by any businesses or is it a proof-of-concept? Is there an equivalent coming using Symbol? I will try to find out some more information for you from our Japanese speaking friends 😊

Other notable tweets

Thanks @SamiurR76186237 for sending in this translation of a tweet from @TrendStream. Apparently David Ham of Scanetchain is now working for NGL and was speaking with @OhGodAGirl at BTConference about NFTs recently.

Thanks as always @bestgoldangel for sending in this tweet posted by @YamadoLife it seems that there is a webinar coming soon which will talk about the Symbol blockchain and the accommodation and travel industry. Should be interesting, once again I really need to learn Japanese – I just wish it wasn’t so damned hard! 😞

OK, so that’s it from us for today! Have a wonderful weekend and if you are are supporting England or Italy on Sunday then I wish you the best of luck – may the best team win! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇮🇹 ⚽️ 😬

PS – I promise I will stop talking about football after Monday (the day after the result of the Euro 2020 finals). You will have to put up with it again in the 2022 World Cup though I’m afraid.. 😆
