Tweet update 06/07/21

Welcome to Tuesday’s line up of tweets! We have a few to get through today so I will get straight into it 😊

Building a Symbol node

Thanks @eikcimickie for sending this one in. Our friend @mikunNEM recommends joining the “Tanuson” Slack channel to get help if you are having problems. I am guessing though that this will be a Japanese Slack channel so it may not be advisable if you don’t speak Japanese! I think that Symbol Blog should write a post on setting up a node. It really isn’t hard if you have some previous Linux experience. Let’s see if we can do this. I need more hours in the day though! 😁

Shin-Kuma Node

Thanks @DjCellBlock for sending in this tweet from @nembear. Apparently the 6th Shin-Kuma node support payment has just been announced and the total amount of support has now exceeded 30,000 XYM. If I remember correctly, the Shin-Kuma node collects a percentage of beneficiary payments (the tip that you give to the node when you harvest a block) and distributes earnings to deserving projects that are promoting or developing on the Symbol blockchain. I think it is an excellent idea and will help to promote use of Symbol and maybe give some small support and incentive to those that are trying to start out on new projects. Well done guys 😊

The School of NEM show 👨🏻‍🏫

As I started going through my list of tweets sent in I noticed a trend. Most of them were translations of @SchoolofNEM tweets. Thanks SchoolofNEM for educating us all!

Thanks to @SamiurR76186237 for sending this in. Apparently there is a Japanese app called Fific which allows you to earn coins on the NEM blockchain and encouraging you to get out walking! I’d love to see this become a global phenomenon. I could certainly do with some encouragement to get outside more! #lockdownbelly

@SchoolofNEM have scored a second entry today with this tweet sent in by @Niashabid17. This is something that I didn’t know but it makes perfect sense. I had wondered what the purpose of the mosaic restriction function was but had no idea. It seems that it was designed to be able to meet requirements of STO‘s (Security Token Offerings). As security tokens are subject to strict regulations there is a potential need to impose transfer restrictions in order not to fall foul of security laws. I learn something new every day writing this blog!

The third @SchoolofNEM tweet, this time picked up by @bestgoldangel (thank you AngelNEM!). Mosaics are an important concept to understand in the NEM NIS1 and Symbol world. They represent a fixed asset and can be created with just a few clicks. I actually wrote an article yesterday that explains how to create mosaics on the Symbol blockchain.

So here’s number 4! Again this one was sent in by @bestgoldangel, it describes aliases in Symbol. An alias is a cool feature, instead of always having to copy and paste a long Symbol address, you can send transactions to an account alias if the recipient has set one up. For example if my account alias was symbolblog you would just be able to send me a transaction in the Symbol wallet using this easy to remember alias without having to know my long address string.

And finally, another @bestgoldangel @SchoolofNEM tweet. I think that this one blew my mind 🤯 and I am not sure that I can explain in any more detail than is in the tweet. I think that we need to research this more and maybe get a longer blog post on the subject! The pixel art is super cool and looking at the linked article (in Japanese) we are only scratching the surface of this story. It looks amazing – please if anyone want’s to help by translating to English I would love to make a post about it!

Breaking news! Coincidentally this has been translated by @GeranKlim into Russian – all of you Russian speakers can check out the post here.

OK that’s it for today! Any more tweets that come in will be included in tomorrow’s post. Thanks again for all of your help bringing my attention to tweets and translating for me. You guys are great! 😃
