Symbol blockchain news update – 25/10/21

Sorry, it’s a long one today! This will be a big week for Symbol and I am sure that there will be a lot of news coming out over the next few days which will keep me busy! I will get straight on as it will take me a little while to write today’s post! 😊

Regional NEM/Symbol social media accounts

I was always confused by the number of different social media accounts that NEM had. I assume that NEM Japan was probably the most active and the most read by the community. It seems that it might be time to retire these regional accounts and there was a slim majority for doing so in the poll that Hatchet ran over the weekend. It was nice to see that the work of Symbol Blog and @UcchinCrypto are appreciated as a reliable source of news for the community. Adds a bit of pressure for us to keep working hard and keeping you guys up to date! 😁

The phoenix rises

I mentioned this in yesterday’s post but I will cover it here as well. I have a feeling that this week will be the most eventful since its Symbol’s launch. I will be keeping an eye out and will be reporting on everything that happens but the phoenix will rise and Symbol will be reborn.

Peersyst and nember.art

So I am not sure what the backstory is here but I guess if the team are going to make a statement then something quite serious has happened. I will bring you the latest once I know more but until then the advice to the community is to avoid using nember.art. There will be a replacement platform soonTM and this is currently being worked on by the team. I am looking forward to finding out more and testing this out. Will be a nice excuse to write another guide too 😊

Twitter DAO?

This is an interesting tweet from @NEMofficial and it makes a lot of sense. I will leave you to read the full details of the idea for yourselves but in essence it would allow selected users to post information about their project on an account such as NEM Official which has a large following. This would enable their projects to get a significant amount of exposure in the early stages of the endeavour. They can build followers on their own Twitter accounts and get visitors to their project website which would build up some initial momentum. Take it from me, it is really hard to build a following and to get some help in this way would make life so much easier! Once the project had benefited and built up a following the account can be moved on to another worthy project and the next account recipient could be decided by the community.

XYM city rises

Again, I urge you to read this whole thread, there is some amazing artwork here and I am super excited to see what the new website looks like. If what I have seen so far is anything to go by we could have the coolest website of any crypto project.

And there are plans for a 3D version XYM city where community artists will be able to add their own artistic flair, make customisations add shops, services and houses. I can’t wait to get my own XYMcity address – just a small place will do me 😁

The wanderer returns

It appears that @TakaoAsayama, CEO of Tech Bureau and a huge name in the Japanese community had been frozen in carbonite for the last 1,335 days but he is back! Timing seems perfect in this monumental week for Symbol. Welcome back!

It is also back to business with COMSA and there will be an airdrop for CMS:XYM (I guess for CMS:XEM holders). I am one of those people (I don’t have many) but maybe we need an English announcement too as there are probably quite a few holders outside of Japan who are not aware of this.

EDIT: Thank you to the kind folks on Discord for pointing out that there are instructions in English here! Me being slack with my research 😁

Happy harvest!

It seems that the number of nodes has stabilised but the number of harvesters continue to increase. Maybe node owners will find that they pick up a few additional delegates (I haven’t but there is still time! 😁).

Look who’s on Coinmarketcap!

Lovely to see this. The captains are now listed (along with their amazing avatars) on Coinmarketcap in the project information section! I am so glad to see Symbol coming out of the shadows and coming to life. It’s like the shy geek in every generic 80’s teen movie that becomes the cool kid and suddenly everyone takes notice 😁

QUEST

A reminder from @bestgoldangel that you should get involved with QUEST it really is a great platform and you can earn money for showcasing your talents. By far the majority of users are Japanese but the site is available in English and our Japanese friends are very happy to see and boost quests from us westerners 😁 If you would like some more information on the platform and how to use it then I wrote a QUEST guide a little while back covering the basics. Fun fact – my quest was the first successful quest on the platform!

Symbol directory goes Japanese

It looks like @RadioRa26841511 has given his time to help out Symbol Directory by translating content to Japanese. Nice work both of you! I hope to see many more directory listings over the coming days and weeks 😊

And I am done..

Sorry it was a long one today. I think that this will probably be true for the rest of this week too. Lots going on in the Symbol world! I’ll be back soon with another update – thanks again for reading!

I'm a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
