Symbol tweet update – 14/07/21

Good morning everyone! Time for another roundup of community tweets about the Symbol blockchain. We have some wonderful (and weird) tweets today, we try to publish everything you send in, even if I struggle to understand them – I had fun with the last two tweets sent in today..

Physical NEM and Symbol coins

Thanks @alediemmee for translating this @SchoolofNEM tweet about availability of physical NEM (and now Symbol) coins available for purchase at @sakamotometalgo check out the website!

I can personally highly recommend @sakamotometal after purchasing a stunning Symbol silver coin from him earlier in the year. He was also able to ship internationally to the UK at a reasonable price and I received the coin within a week. You can see the craftsmanship of the coin as modelled by my 1 year old Max 😁

SNEMS

Thanks @eikcimickie for sending in this tweet from @DaokaTrade. I had never heard of SNEMS but it seems like it’s worth digging into this one in more detail.

Looking at the SNEMS site, it seems that it is a forum/bulletin board setup where you can pay in XEM to post a new thread:

Once you send XEM and enter a message containing the title of the thread it will be posted to the SNEMS site. Maybe SNEMS is a mashup of “SMS” and “NEM”? Anyway, once you have posted your thread, others can reply to it by sending a XEM transaction and their response as a message. It seems that any XEM sent as a response to a thread will be credited to the user that started the SNEMS thread. This means that if you start a particularly interesting and popular thread, you will get some financial compensation for it – great!

This is actually really cool, I think I understand the concept so maybe I will give this a try and write a blog post about it in the future – it is being added to my list as I am writing this article. Shame that I don’t have any XEM to test with, I am a Symbol man now but I will scrape some XEM together for the experiment. We need a SyMS too!

Symbol: the Sagrada FamΓlia of blockchains πŸ˜‚

Thanks @SamiurR76186237 for sending in this gem from @TrendStream. I am sure that you are all aware of the Sagrada FamΓlia but just in case you are not it is an unfinished basilica in Barcelona, Spain. I have only seen it from the outside since when I was last there the queue was insane. The building was designed by Gaudi and construction started in 1882 but it still isn’t finished. The new date for completion was set to be 2026 but now this date has been pushed back further. There are some parallels with Symbol here..

The point that @TrendStream is making in this tweet is that Symbol will continue to evolve over time and development will never end, there will always be new features and improvements which will be introduced. There will never be a point at which we stop and say Symbol is perfect (this should hold true for all blockchain platforms too). Let’s hope that some super evolved version of Symbol is still around in 150 years.

For all you history and architecture buffs, you can read more on the You can read more about this fascinating building on Wikipedia and even take a virtual tour. I feel like I should be writing blog posts for the Catalan Tourist Board.

Lost in translation? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ 🍜

Thanks again @SamiurR76186237 and @TrendStream! I think I get the overall analogy here but finer details are completely lost on me πŸ˜‚ I think this comes from β€œReflections of Space Pirates” which I wrote about on Monday in this post. Here we learnt that NEM NIS1 (the father’s famous noodle shop “Niswanken”) will be a sub chain of Symbol (the son’s shop “Shinboru Honpo”) πŸ˜† The XEM (wontons) will come from NIS1 and be served on Symbol.

OK, I give up now! I tried @SamiurR76186237 – send something less cryptic next time! πŸ˜„ Thanks for making me think and laugh though.

That’s it for today, thanks for reading our tweet update and my rambling thoughts. We will be back tomorrow, as usual with some more news! 😁

I'm a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
