Symbol blockchain news update – 29/02/24

It’s that time of the week again when I try to make sense of Japanese Twitter and update you on what is happening in the world of Symbol and NEM. I am looking forward to the day when we see Symbol take off in the Western world and I can report on English tweets without needing to decipher cryptic machine translations 😁

Listen to the Radio

The Man, the Myth, the Legend Radio has written a post (in Japanese) discussing the value proposition of XYM. He talks about the need to increase transactions, provide utility and value and actively develop new applications. It proposes a more sustainable route to increasing the value of XYM moving away from traditional (sketchy) hype and empty promises to attract traders hoping to make a quick buck. you can read the article here.

NEM supernodes

It’s that time of the month again (and I have just posted this in time – thanks Leap Year!). If you are a NEM Supernode operator then it is time to enrol your node for March. This can easily be done through the desktop wallet. If you are not running a Supernode and have a vested balance of at least 10,000 XEM then spin up a node and you’ll receive a daily reward!

aLice in wonderland

I have seen a number of posts about Toshi’s aLice recently but haven’t yet tried it out. Luckily nononon has written a guide explaining what it does and how to use it. From the screenshots, it looks like at least part of the UI is in English but there’s lots of Japanese that I don’t understand. I will have to check it out and if there isn’t an English version hopefully we will see one soon.

Fast Sync

Another article that will be useful if you ever need to quickly resync a Symbol node (it does take forever syncing from scratch!) then read this and hopefully, you will be able to get your node back up and running in a fraction of the time!

Multilingual Symbol

I have written about this a few times on the blog but just a reminder that Quick Learning Symbol is an excellent resource if you are a budding programmer interested in developing applications on Symbol. It is now available in five languages, including English 🙏 No excuses people – go take a look!

Metal on Symbol v2

I reported on this last week but it looks like Metal on Symbol version 2 is now available! Go read the documentation and get started on the GitHub page.

Solar powered

There can’t be many other blockchains where you can run a node on a mobile phone. Apparently, you can also run the node using solar power! I am guessing it is still running and on February 12th this node had been fully solar powered for 75 days. Let’s hope that it is sunny where you are – I don’t think that I would be able to solar power anything here in the UK 😁

Bookworm

So you are going to have to click the link to the tweet here as the book in question doesn’t seem to have appeared in my embed. You might notice something familiar on the bookshelf. I may buy a copy when I am next in Japan. I won’t be able to read it but it will look good on my bookshelf and presumably, it will make the authors a few Yen too!

NEMTUS strikes again

NEMTUS continue to work tirelessly to promote Symbol and NEM and they are exhibiting at 2(?) different events in the next couple of months. If you want to attend the Web3/AI conference then it looks like you can get a 10% discount too!

Symbol tourists

This is good to see. It looks like Kirari Kanda, a restaurant in Tokyo received an enquiry (in English) about crypto payments. I hope that the visitor is going to pay with XYM 😁 Maybe I will have to visit next time I am in Tokyo! Apologies by the way, for some reason I couldn’t embed this tweet so the link to it is here.

Transactions are flying

It looks like Symbol transactions are on the rise at the moment which is great to see! Tomorrow is March 1st so I will be generating my own monthly statistics for Symbol and NEM so I am excited to see what happened in February!

Comic capers

The latest episode of XYM Comic is out! As far as I can see it is just the Japanese version but I can assure you that the English version is on the way as I checked the text the other day 😁

Thanks!

OK, that’s it for today. It was a longer post than I had expected! I’ll be back again next week with another update and if you have any stories that you would like to share then please let me know!
