26 Sep Symbol blockchain news update – 26/09/21
Hi guys, hope that you had a great weekend! I’m taking this evening off to chill and play video games but I wanted to put a Symbol Blog post out as there was an important tweet that I wanted to highlight so here it is..
Power to the people!
So this is an important (and revealing) thread from @Jaguar0625 which I urge you to read in full. It basically outlines what the original vision for NEM was and how things deviated from this path after the creation of the NEM Foundation and later NEM Group.
I am not sure what was going on behind the scenes but it sounds that NEM Group did not share the same vision as the core devs and were not aligned with the original goal of being a community led project that benefits the many rather than the few. I guess this is why NEM Group was shut down and why now there is such a drive to reinvigorate and include the community in the future of Symbol and NEM.
I have been banging on about this since I started the blog and completely agree with the new direction being taken. Building the community up again and restoring trust is hard but this is the road that we need to be going down. A strong community is essential for every crypto project and I hope that Symbol will get people excited again so we can see some growth, not only in Japan but in the rest of the world too.
There has been a lot of doom and gloom over the past few years and I stopped checking the Telegram channels a long time ago as they weren’t nice places to hang out. I am sure that this has put others off joining the community and contributing so we need a fresh start. Discord gives us that opportunity and XYMcity feels more like a community. Granted, it is small at the moment so somehow we need to grow it. I hope that new Symbol features and projects built on the platform will generate some buzz and we will see new users coming in. It would be amazing to see the excitement and passion that we see in our Japanese community spread around the world. It may take a while but I think we will get there.
It seems that the team are also considering providing some funding to groups such as NEMTUS who are promoting NEM and Symbol technology in Japan. I am not sure how this would work in practice but involving those that are immensely passionate about the project has to be a good thing. You can join the conversation on Twitter if you have any ideas or feedback on Jaguar’s suggestion.
It is looking increasingly likely that some autonomous funding for the Japanese community is on the horizon and I think that it is both necessary and well deserved.
XEMbook world domination
Also picked this tweet, XEMbook is about to hit 250,000 users worldwide! Obviously it is most popular in Japan but as you can see from the map it has a global reach. Not many countries left to conquer! Surely there are some Mongolian Symbol holders? 😁
Thanks
Thanks for reading and thanks for the 300+ additional followers in the last few days! It’s great to get some new readers. Bear with me, my workload is heavy at the moment but when things calm down a little I will get back to writing some actual articles. In the meantime I will try to keep you up to date with what is happening in Symbol-land 😊 I will be back next week and hopefully I will have some news to report on!
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
