24 Nov Symbol blockchain news update โ 24/11/21
Well it’s been a rollercoaster couple of days in terms of our collective wealth ๐ If you’re feeling a bit down, stop watching the charts and get involved in the community! Also like the philosophy in the second tweet here. We are all in on the ground floor – think yourselves lucky, you are here now and can afford to be harvesters ๐
Harlock II – the space pirate strikes again
So here we go again! We can’t have a week without a hard fork and a bit of excitement can we? Harlock is back and he’s ready for action! ๐ I am sure that you all know the drill by now, if you are a NEM node owner then make sure that you upgrade to version 0.6.100! If you are a harvester then wait for a bit until more nodes have been upgraded and then make sure that you are delegating to one that is supporting the Harlock fork.
Let’s hope that there is no drama this time ๐ฌ Last time we had support for the fork but due to a bug all hell broke loose. Hopefully it will be a smooth process and we will all be celebrating come block 3,481,580/1!
If you want to follow the progress of the fork then you can do so using the “Seven Seas Explorer“. It’s still very early days (fork will happen on Tuesday 30th November) but as you can see there is a long way to go..
Don’t be complacent, don’t assume that everything will be fine, upgrade your nodes! ๐ You can also use this amazing webpage created by @ishidad2 to countdown to the big moment – very Matrix-esque, love it.
Important: check your configuration files
If you are upgrading your NEM node then please read these tweets from Gimre and CryptoBeliever and make sure that your config files are correct, we don’t want a repeat of the problems this caused in the previous fork attempt.

Symbol freebies!
Not that you should need an excuse to get yourselves down to 22 Cafรฉ but there is currently an extra incentive to visit – some Symbol freebies! It’s first come first served so get there quick before they have gone! It’s a 6,000 mile trip for me so I am going to miss out but I intend to take a trip to Tokyo at some point in the not too distant future and Cafรฉ 22 will be on my list of places to visit next time. I am still keen to try to survive for 24 hours in the city using only XYM for payment and write this up for the blog ๐

Another shout out for Gimre’s QUEST offer – easy money and the chance to play some (largely new) old school games! I wasn’t going to get involved but I did download Brogue and played for a few minutes. I got killed by an eel on level 3 ๐ฅ Damn you eel. Might have another go tonight..
Another exchange listing?
Interesting.. I wonder which exchange will be listing Symbol next? They will be coming thick and fast soon, next year will be a big year for us. Maybe 2022 will be the year that I quit work ๐ค I can wait until 2025 – don’t worry captains ๐
