23 Sep Symbol blockchain news update – 23/09/21
It’s Thursday already and it’s been a bit of a crazy week so apologies as there may be some days that I don’t get around to posting due to other commitments. Maybe this is a good thing, I will aim for quality over quantity at Symbol Blog although I fear I may end up with neither 😂
To the Japanese community ❤️
Let’s face it, currently without the Japanese community NEM and Symbol would probably be irrelevant, it may even be a case of “NEM ded” that I used to see so often in NEMberia (before I stopped looking at the group completely).
There is a huge following in Japan and the community are active and inventive. The vast majority of posts I see on Japanese Twitter are about things built on Symbol, artwork, guides and useful discussions rather than negative posts about price etc. It certainly frustrates the hell out of me that there is not this level of recognition and engagement outside of Japan.
I spotted this post by @Jaguar0625 earlier who recognises the power and the input of the Japanese community and is wondering whether there is something that the team can do to give them more ownership over NEM and Symbol.
I have no idea what this could be but there is discussion in the thread so go check it out.
@TrendStream (as always) makes some excellent points. This is key for me. There is nothing I would like to see more than the passion for Symbol and NEM to spread outside of Japan. I tirelessly scour Symbol news on Twitter and my whole news feed is basically in Japanese every single day.
I am an eternal optimist so I am hopeful for the future of Symbol but as Tresto points out we are way behind the curve now and things need to start happening, and quickly. There may not be any second chances this time as it is too easy to get lost in the soup of other coins out there (is protocols the word I should be using Hatchet?). A clear purpose and vision is needed and I feel like we will hear more about this over the coming weeks with the new website release.
The thing that really gives me hope is that I have seen a huge change in the working practices of the team, they have a vision, they are focussing on developing Symbol, they are working hard and it seems that they are really excited about what they are doing.
All decisions and discussions were held behind closed doors in the past at NEM. We never knew what was going on and were rarely able to share our thoughts with the people running the show. I think that this led to bad feeling in the community and it has been a very negative place to be over the past few years.
I think Discord is changing this. If you have connected you will see a bunch of channels related to different projects that are being worked on. You will see daily updates from the wider team showing what they have been up to. There is engagement between the devs and us mortals, interesting discussions and links, and it is actually a nice place to hang out. You will definitely learn something too even if you glaze over a little or end up with a headache in some of the more techy channels.
With additional transparency, a solid vision and increasingly awesome features being added to Symbol I hope to see some more engagement from the English speaking world. We need to grow the community and to attract skilled people who can contribute to and build on the platform. Remember the network flywheel? Let’s get it spinning!
Anyway, I went off on a tangent there. In summary, thank you Japan 🙏 and please check out the thread above and give some feedback to Jaguar.
XEMGallery?
So I just saw this post from @XEMbook and I am not 100% sure what it is about or how to use it at the moment. I think that you provide an account address and you can view your NFT that you bought on nember.art.
Edit: I did get it working and that’s exactly what it does! How cool!
So if we go to nember.art and look for a sold NFT you can get the mosaic ID and check this on the explorer.
Then you can find the account that owns that NFT mosaic:
From there you can go to XEMGallery and view the artwork(s) associated with that account:
Pretty cool hey? 😎
And finally..
Saw this in my feed and thought I would share – nice nails @Hitomi_syachooo! 😁
Thanks!
Not many stories today but I feel like I did a fair bit of writing so I will leave it there for now. I’ll be back soon (like it or not) with some more Symbol related news and maybe some of my own opinions sprinkled in 😊 Thanks for reading!
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
