23 Aug Symbol blockchain news update 23/08/21
Hi guys, it’s Monday again and we are back with another Symbol Blog update. Tomatina 2021 is creeping ever closer so I wanted to give you an update on the event which I will aim to cover again tomorrow if and when any new information arises. Make sure that you have some time free this Wednesday, it would be great if we can have some representation from the rest of the world in NEM Tomatina 2021!
Tomatina is coming! 🍅🍅🍅🍅(🍌)
Mark your calendars because NEM Tomatina is coming this Wednesday (25th August)! There is an overview of what @xembook has planned in this NEMLOG post.
The event starts at 10:00am JST which is 2:00am my time so I may be late to the party 😄
I am not going to translate the full NEMLOG post as you can use Google Translate as well as I can 😁 I will give a brief summary though..
Time: 10:00am – late (JST) on the 25th August
Purpose: You will be able to participate in various different events on the day. We have reported on some of the activities under development on the blog but I can’t find a definitive list of events. I think that next year (with the help of some of the Japanese XYMbassadors) I will try to provide more information in English ahead of the event so that we can spread the word outside of Japan.
Rules:
- Tomato mosaics are worthless
- Join with a disposable account on the day, I guess you won’t want your main account spammed with tomato mosaics! 🍅
- This is a fun event – no commercialisation or trying to make money from the event. You may fall foul of the law (especially in Japan) if you do so..
How to take part:
After creating a new account you will be able to obtain tomato mosaics through the SigAnn tomato faucet – there are further instructions in the NEMLOG article.
Activities: Ah, it seems that xembook also doesn’t have a complete list of events but is currently waiting for developers to let him know. I guess that this will be coming very soon so I will report with a complete list of activities in the next day or so if I hear any more.
He has created his own activities too, including a tool to swap your tomatoes to bananas with XEMbook or with other users (e.g. Twitter followers) using “QRoss“. I will experiment with this on the day and maybe tweet about how to achieve this as I think I need to give it a try before I try to explain it! 😁
Symvolution x Tomatina
Following on from the last news item. It seems that the Symvolution game will offer special weapons to users that are participating in the tomatina event. The account used to play the game just needs to hold tomato mosaics in order to be eligible.
Cycling with Symbol
I reported on this in my update yesterday after boosting @4taka1013‘s quest. It seems like he has hit the road already! Here’s a reminder of the concept and an opportunity to donate to (boost) the quest.
Shin-Kuma node support
@nembear has just published his latest article on the Shin-Kuma node support beneficiaries. You will remember from past posts that the Shin-Kuma node gives a proportion of the node fees collected to worthy causes. It seems like this week the two awardees are @sLIFE93266531 for this amazing looking Symbol wallet we reported on a little while ago.
And the second recipient is Shin Nihon Security Co., Ltd. who are using Symbol mosaics internally within the company and allowing employees to to give kudos to their coworkers that have been especially helpful or hard working. I think that this is then used by managers as a source of information about who is performing above and beyond in their role potentially flagging them for future bonuses or promotions. It’s an interesting concept, I wonder if it will take off elsewhere..
That’s all for today..
Thanks to all of you for reading. We will be back again soon with another update! 😊
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
