22 Feb Symbol blockchain news update – 23/02/22
This morning seems like doom and gloom all around. I am not surprised it happened but I am still shocked and worried by the gravity of the situation in Ukraine. I don’t want to dwell on politics for fear of offending people but I just don’t understand why those in positions of power and extreme wealth are generally out to further their own selfish agendas rather than benefiting global society as a whole. Anyway, this sort of leads me, in a very roundabout way, into the first two stories.
Give a little bit
Yesterday I received a very generous donation and it really made my day (thank you again!) 😊 I have been surprised on several occasions by the generosity of individuals donating to the blog and have tried to pay this back to other projects that I appreciate. I haven’t given a lot but have boosted a few quests and sent donations over the last year as I know how encouraging it can be to know that your work is appreciated. As much as I hate parting with my XYM I think I need to do this more as many others in the community have been far more generous than me.
Sometimes it’s difficult for us to think past hoarding wealth but it makes sense to help out those that are building on Symbol or providing some kind of service to the community. Unfortunately, I am not a XYMillionaire (maybe one day) but if you are a bit of a hoarder then consider helping those that are helping you (albeit indirectly) by growing the Symbol ecosystem. We need to add some good karma to the community – what goes around comes around and all that. 😁 I’m all about peace and love today ✌️🌼 ✌️
By attracting and retaining community talent and rewarding hard work we will benefit the network overall so if you are sitting on some huge stacks then just giving a small amount or delegating a portion of your holdings to a community members node might put a smile on their face and give them the encouragement they need to keep going.
I will dial up my generosity levels and I hope that you all will too 😊 Community is powerful. If we all work together and support each other’s efforts then we will succeed.
Shedding light on a murky past
It looks like we will finally know more about what was going on behind closed doors at the NEM Foundation and NGL and its offshoots. There is a current Twitter poll about whether to make this information public so go vote, please! I think that this information should see the light of day as the community deserve to know how funds were spent by those in power. Was it really done in the best interests of NEM and Symbol or were those in charge taking advantage and profiting from treasury funds? I have a feeling that we might not like what we see and it could be very uncomfortable reading for some of the previous leadership.
I would be quite happy for this to come out into the open. Rather than it being seen as a bad thing and sweeping it under the carpet I think it would demonstrate publicly the commitment of the pirate crew to complete transparency. This in turn would be a good starting point to restoring our reputation in the wider crypto community. Also, any publicity is good publicity, right? 😁

Sakamoto strikes again
Ooh, looks like we may see some physical XYM City inspired NEM and Symbol coins. I want! I will be keeping an eye on @sakamotometal‘s updates and try to justify to myself that I need to spend money on these 😁
Beef bonanza
So much meat 🤤 I know where I would be eating tonight if I lived closer. @yakinikuajiyosi has announced that they will be accepting payment in XYM in the near future (date to be decided). This again is down to the tireless work of @nembear who has led a crusade in Japan getting businesses to introduce Symbol as a payment option. I am not sure how many venues now accept XYM but there are a lot and the list is growing every week! I really hope someone takes on this challenge in the UK – would love to go for a meal or a drink and pay in XYM.
