22 Feb Symbol blockchain news update – 22/02/23
Good morning everyone, hope you’re all well! It’s that time of the week again and you guys have been busy building so I am back with another Symbol Blog update!
Quick Learning Symbol
The English version of XEMbook‘s “Quick Learning Symbol” has been released! Thank you Radio for translating it from Japanese! It really is an excellent resource for learning more about Symbol and how to interact with the blockchain using JavaScript. It covers many Symbol features from sending simple transactions to writing metadata to accounts and mosaics, secret locks and multisig accounts. You can even code along directly in the developer console of Google Chrome! 🤯
Excellent work XEMbook, I hope that this provides some of you with the inspiration to start building and that word spreads so that we see a more global Symbol community start to grow! Spread the word people 💪
Metal on Symbol for C#
Toshi has been hard at work again and this time he has released a C# implementation of “Metal on Symbol” which can be called from within Unity. For those of you that didn’t read this post, Metal allow you to write any type of file as metadata to Symbol accounts or mosaics.
Mosaic creation in Python
ULUNTA2 has released a guide to creating and naming Symbol mosaics, this time using the Python SDK. The guide is in Japanese but is easily translated using Google Translate, code is universally readable anyway right? I have been playing a game with Gimre trying to create the shortest mosaic ID – we were tied at a hex value of 5 characters (see here and here) and called it a draw. Maybe you can beat us 😁
Unyted we stand
Faunsu has been busy as usual and created a DAO called Unyte. I think it is for advertising activities but I am not 100% sure. It seems that members earn tokens called UNYT for performing tasks but that’s about all I know at the moment. I will ask around and see what it is all about and when I find out I will let you know!
Everyday is Christmas
Just a gentle reminder from XEMbook that you can go back and read the previous NEM / Symbol advent calendars to learn more about some of their features and code along with the articles. I think that this year all (or at least most) of the Pirate Crew wrote a post, some of which are hosted on the blog so go check them out and get inspired!
Comic time
The latest edition of XYM Comic has been released and it is available in both English and Japanese. I really love the artwork and they are always fun to read so go take a look 😁
Gaining momentum
This is great to see! “Symbol Community Web” is really taking off at the moment which means more eyes on Symbol. The site is available in multiple languages and if yours isn’t there and you feel like translating then I am sure that Faunsu would be happy for the help. I see that Japanese traffic is hugely dominant but that is to be expected and is also the case for Symbol Blog. Maybe one day the rest of the world will wake up to Symbol 😊
Dinner is served
maromaro1989 has been living the high life and spending some XYM at rasfriet and it looks delicious! I am off to Tokyo in May so maybe I will get to drop in as it seems to be a 45 minute journey from where I will be staying, 22cafe is also on my list 😊
Thanks!
Thanks again for reading. I will be back again next week with another Symbol Blog update! Until then, have a wonderful week and let me know if there’s any Symbol or NEM related news that you think that I should be reporting on!
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
