Symbol blockchain news update – 20/12/21

It’s Monday again but I don’t care as it is a short working week for me this week and I have pretty much cleared my to-do list for the year! Hope that you are on the wind-down before the Christmas break too. I am sure that I will be back later in the week with another update but just in case I am not then have a wonderful festive period 🎅🏻 🍻 😁

Airdrop completed!

@tsubasa_yozawa has completed his quest and all 100,000 XYM has been distributed 🎅🏻 Now 5,000 new Symbol users have started their journey with 20 XYM each! I mentioned this in my last post but maybe in January I will take a look at the 5,000 new accounts and see how their balances have changed. It will be interesting to see if the experiment worked and new users are actively using (or even accumulating) XYM.

Calling all poets

Saw this tweet over the weekend and it looks like @trendstream is running a Symbol poetry competition! You can reflect on what has happened in Symbol-land this year and/or share your hopes and dreams for the future. The deadline is midnight on Christmas Day (December 25th) so you still have some time! 20 lucky poets will win 300 XYM each so get involved! 😀

Official Symbol/NEM Twitter account

Some discussion on Twitter about whether @NEMofficial should be tweeting more. I am not sure what it should be tweeting about but I do agree it isn’t very talkative at the moment. I really liked Hatchet’s previous idea of transferring ownership to other worthy projects on rotation so that they could promote what they are doing. If I remember correctly this violates Twitter’s terms of service so it was a no go. Perhaps the official account could be liking and retweeting (or promoting) some of the community projects though – for example, the NEMTUS Hackathon or NEM Advent Calendar. I am not sure what the policy is on tweeting in Japanese but giving some more exposure to these events could be a good thing. Also happy if they want to tweet about Symbol Blog – just send people across to me and I will tell them what is going on 😁

Symbol leathers

This is some seriously impressive leatherworking, I think it is on a belt or strap of some kind due to the buckle, originally I thought it was a wallet – I am still not 100% sure 😁 Love the detail showing the Syndicate logo. Apparently, the connector on the nose was too intricate to carve but the rest looks great (and I wouldn’t have noticed the node unless @MTN_syndicate had pointed it out). I want this on a leather wallet – I think that Symbol needs an analogue wallet 😁

Project Archimedes DEX

I don’t know much about this but it looks like @EUFjZEyIuzS9rIi of NFT-Drive fame is working on a decentralised exchange for Symbol called “Project Archimedes”. This sounds very exciting and I will be following closely. I will try to translate any future news and include on the blog.

It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas

I missed this one the first time around in December 2020 but here’s @aquino_aquino13 with his Symbol/NEM Christmas tune to get you into the crypto Christmas spirit! 😁

Shin-Kuma node support

The latest distribution has taken place and there are some worthy winners/projects announced.

We briefly reported on Arcana the other day but @shu801115 has been rewarded for his work on this. You can read more (in Japanese) below:

Also great to see Radio-Radio being rewarded for his hard work in translating all things Japanese into English so that people like me have an easier job of understanding! We all really appreciate your hard work Radio! 😊 🥳

NFT-Drive auction

If you love your NFTs then you are going to want to keep an eye on this. The excellent @mahorobart is auctioning this on-chain NFT and bidding starts today in around an hour (21:00JST/12:00 UTC) and closes tomorrow (21st) at 21:00 JST. If the artwork looks familiar it is because the black and white version of the NFT was given away free recently to anyone that signed up with their Symbol address. I did publish on the blog so no excuses if you missed it (I received mine!).

It seems that it is a low-tech auction and to bid you need through replying to the NFT-Drive Twitter account thread (which I assume will be posted when the auction opens). Good luck if you are bidding!

In case you missed it…

We posted three(!) new NEM Advent Calendar articles on the blog at the end of last week. Make sure you read them! There are two posts from

@Jaguar0625 (thank you so much for posting on Symbol Blog this year!)

I also joined in the fun with a post about starting a new Symbol community resource on the 6 month anniversary of starting the blog:

You can find a summary of all NEM Advent Calendar posts here so please go have a look and a read through over the Christmas break! 😊

Thanks

Thanks, everyone for reading today’s post. I will be back again soon but there may be some breaks in service over the Christmas period.
