18 Aug Symbol blockchain news update – 19/08/21
Hey everyone! I’m back again spamming your Twitter feed with the Symbol Blog news update 😆 Hope that life is good and you are ready for some news and views. We don’t have a whole lot to report on today (it is still Wednesday here but I need to post today as I won’t have time in the morning). I think that big news may be on the way judging from the battle cries we report on below but I will save this until we have more clarity on the issue and I have a feeling it will warrant a longer blog post.
United we stand
Maybe this will become clearer soon but I will include these tweets here. I want to urge the entire community to get behind the core devs who took Symbol from an idea to a reality. They are the people currently driving Symbol forward and pushing for it to become a leading blockchain in the soup of other protocols out there. They need support to fulfil this ambition, both from the community and financially. If we as holders, want to see the value of our XYM stash increase then we have to make sure that they have this.
We stand with you @Jaguar0625, @NCOSIGIMCITYNRE and @0x6861746366574 (and all the pirate crew) I hope that you will do too.
Get involved
Here’s an controversial (but I think warranted) tweet from @OliverMuldoon.. You all have it in you to help in some way. The NEM/Symbol community has a core of amazing members who work really hard to promote, educate and develop on Symbol. The truth is that this core is small and generally focussed in Japan but I know that we will have a variety of talents out there. Even if you can only contribute in a small way then please do. I also hid in the background and kept up with news on the forum and on Twitter in the past but I now feel like I am contributing albeit in a very small way to the common cause.
Loveable rogue
On a lighter note, Gimre (@NCOSIGIMCITYNRE) wants to see some game streaming quests! It’s rogue-lites and rougelikes all the way here. This has also served as a great list of games that I will probably love so I am going to be downloading some and having a go. I don’t think that I will be streaming myself playing though – I don’t have the personality for it! 😂
Although I do have a kick ass wizard in Angband (not on the list but should be). Proper old school.. Maybe it is time to bring Iauglan the Elf out of retirement..
I want to play this again now.. You might not hear from Symbol Blog for a while if I do (bad enough that I started Hades on PS5 this week) 😆
School of NEM
I feel like we haven’t featured a tweet from @SchoolofNEM for a while so here are a couple for you sent in by @bestgoldangel (thanks!).
Firstly a reminder that Symbol has three tiers of supernodes requiring either 1 million, 2 million or 3 million XYM. THe higher the tier the greater the reward. In addition only supernodes with 3M+ XYM can act as voting nodes. You can read more about supernodes and voting here. Actually the supernode rewards are significantly less than these nodes would make through harvesting (although they obviously still receive harvesting rewards as well).
And a reminder that Symbol uses proof of stake plus (PoS+) as its consensus algorithm. We have explained this many times before but PoS+ is a modified proof of stake protocol that boosts an accounts importance score (likelihood of harvesting a block) if they are actively using the network, e.g. running a node or sending lots of transactions. You can read more about PoS+ here.
Thanks
Once again, thanks for reading! I have really enjoyed my first few weeks running a blog. It’s been hard but it is really encouraging to see our readership slowly growing. If you like the content then please like and share, it’s always nice to see some hearts when I log into Twitter each morning 😊
Also (as usual) if you have news please send it in!
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
