16 Sep Symbol blockchain news update 16/09/21
Hi everyone and welcome to yet another edition of the Symbol Blog news update! I am starting my post the evening before and so far I only have two stories to cover so hopefully I pick up some more news by the time I post this in the morning!
Morning after: I managed to find two so I think that’s enough to warrant a post ๐
XYM credited on Bitpanda (finally, kind of ๐)
Well 6 months on and Bitpanda have finally credited their customers with the XYM they were entitled to at snapshot. Better late than never I guess.
I don’t use Bitpanda but must have signed up at some point in the past and bought XEM as I received this email:
I’m pretty sure it I will have a fraction of 1 XEM in there but maybe I got drunk one night, signed up for an account, went on a XEM buying spree and then forgot all about it. Wishful thinking I know but I should probably reset my password and have a look.
Reading the email it seems like utter ๐ /๐ด ๐ฉ to me. So they are listing in “trade only” mode so you can sell your credited XYM but you can’t withdraw to your private wallet from the exchange. This is lame – they credited users accounts but they can’t withdraw their coins? Shame on you Bitpanda, you suck..
Maybe they have the foresight to know that XYM will rise in value and they can sit on a nice stash when they do list it in the future. Probably the real reason is that they just didn’t want to integrate Symbol as they were lazy. Who knows..
Update your nodes!
OK, I know I talked about this a lot already but it seems that there is a new release of symbol-boostrap (v1.0.9). This fixes a bug in the updateVotingKeys command. Basically if you don’t have a 3M+ XYM voting node and you have already upgraded to v1.0.8 you don’t need to upgrade again. If you do have a voting node and you do need to update you keys then v1.0.9 is the release for you. Obviously if you haven’t updated at all yet just go for the newest version! ๐
Whilst we are on the topic it seems like the update rollout is off to a good start with over 50% upgrading within the first 12 hours post release.
Well done everyone and a special shout out to @Allnodes to rolling this out to their hundreds of nodes in such a short space of time! ๐
Edit: this morning we are up to over 67% so that’s 2/3rds of all nodes running the latest version – if you are harvesting on a node that hasn’t updated then maybe it’s time to delegate elsewhere. There will be a fork at block 528,000 which will occur in less than 4 hours from now around 11:07(ish?) UTC.

The new Symbol logo
I am guessing that we are down to a shortlist of the final three contenders for the new Symbol logo and I think that they are pretty awesome. I suppose all will be revealed in the next few weeks – very excited! ๐คฉ
Talking of new websites.. We are working on a redesign and I am really looking forward to showing it off – hopefully it will be live in a week or two ๐
