14 Feb Symbol blockchain news update – 14/02/22
I am not a huge fan but Happy Valentine’s Day anyway! Hope you all have something nice planned 😊 I have quite a few stories to report on so I better get on with today’s Symbol Blog update!
Changes are coming
This is exciting! I think all of us that are doing something (however small) for Symbol and NEM are sick and tired of those that don’t, benefitting from everyone’s hard work and complaining when the price goes down or they think that progress is slow. This is especially true of those that got in early, got a supernode for next to nothing and have been living off the spoils (sometimes with a sense of entitlement) for the last few years.
My heart bleeds for you
Robin Hood is coming to town and the rich may not be too happy with this shakeup (aww poor things). I now run a NEM node despite not owning any XEM or making a single penny for it. I also run a Symbol testnet node – why? It’s not all about financial gain so if you’re a NEM supernode owner it may be time to put up or sell up. Sorry if I have offended anyone here but I do feel strongly that if you have such a huge stake in something then you should be doing everything that you can to help it succeed!
The wealth gap sounds like an interesting topic for a blog post Hatchet 😉
EDIT: Sorry I realised that I didn’t actually point out what changes will be coming!
But what can I do to help?
@symbolico1 asked for some tips on what he can do to help out and Hatchet wrote this thread about things that we can all do to help grow Symbol and NEM. It is a must-read for everyone I think. By the way, I know that you do contribute symbolico and thanks for your previous Symbol Blog article! 🙏
I’m using this thread as a checklist now – here is the condensed version:
- Create mosaics ✅
- Create namespaces ✅
- Write ✅
- Market
- Build
- Speculation
- Partners
- “Other”
- Archive
- Ask how you can help
I have touched on 4-10 but I don’t feel I have done enough for a green tick yet so will be working towards these! 😁 Maybe we need to award a kind of digital boy scout badge that we can metaphorically sew on our uniforms 😁
By the way – always happy to receive guest posts – just let me know if you want a contributor account on the blog and I will set you up and you can get writing!
Renew your certificates
This is important. If you are running a Symbol node and have been doing so since launch then you will need to renew your SSL certificates. If not then your node will suddenly stop working when it expires. Your harvesters will not be happy and neither will you! I have a note in my calendar – make sure that you do too!
The rise of COMSA
I am sure that you will be well aware of COMSA by now. I think my entire Twitter has gone COMSA and NFT crazy since its launch. Apparently, there have been over 3,000 NFTs submitted in the first 10 days. I still haven’t dabbled yet, I don’t have the artistic talent to create anything but if there is something that I like that is very reasonably priced then I may pick something up. I saw a few that I really loved but they were well out of my price range. Need to shop around more. I would like to see some improvements to the platform as finding things is really hard at present.
Shortly after the tweet above the number is above 4,000 so that was an additional 1,000 NFTs in just two days! More NFTs = more transactions = more rewards for harvesters = more interest in Symbol.
Running a node
This was an interesting read, if you run a node then please reply in the thread. Generally running a node isn’t going to cost you too much although some are paying significantly more than others. Shop around and you should be able to get a good deal. When I initially set up my node I was paying around $250 per month. Now I am paying around $55 for a server with the same specs and (touch wood) better reliability with no downtime since I migrated in August 2021.
Cool coinage
Looking forward to seeing the NEM and Symbol coin designs becoming a reality – @sakamotometal does some amazing work and if these do become a thing then I may have to buy one 😊
More outlets accepting Symbol
We are seeing more and more restaurants, bars and cafes accepting Symbol payments. Here are two more coming soon! Ras Friet in Arakawa (northern Tokyo).
And Sandwich Factory (@sandwichf1) in Saitama will soon be accepting XYM payments. @nembear is helping introduce Symbol to businesses all over Japan! Would be great to see some ambassadors taking on this challenge in the rest of the world too!
90s throwback
I saw this series of NFTs listed on COMSA and had a flashback to the mid 90’s when these were huge 😁 Ah, nostalgia – take me back to the fun carefree times!
If you haven’t seen these before then the trick is to relax your eyes 😁
Then a 3D image should appear. I won’t give the game away with the above NFT series but I am sure you will be able to guess what the hidden image is. For those of you that are interested in making your own examples, there are online tools (like this one) to help you out.
Get tweeting!
We all know that Hatchet loves a tweet. I think we all need to be more Hatchet. Let’s get #Symbol some coverage – the more people that know about us the faster we will grow!
Shiny
I love this – impressive work WaterFront021! It seems it has now been listed on COMSA here. The bidding is currently at 1,000 XYM. I am sure it will go for more but if you are interested then get bidding!
Finally…
Sorry it is late but happy birthday @bestgoldangel! Hope you had an amazing day 😊
Thanks!
I covered quite a lot already so will leave it there for today! Have a good day and if you have something special planned then enjoy! I have bought a card (which I still haven’t written) and apparently, my wife has one for me which she also hasn’t written yet. Who said that romance is dead? 😂
If you are a regular reader and would like to help out then please consider delegating to my node xymharvesting.net 😊
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
