08 Dec Symbol blockchain news update – 08/12/21

Good morning everyone! It’s Wednesday and we are halfway through the week already. I don’t have a lot of time today so I am going to get straight on with today’s update!

Symbol block extractor

So I had a small play with this several months ago and there is a wealth of data that you can get from the block extractor. You need to download the entire blockchain from a node and then you can query it however you want to. I was looking at harvesting accounts but there will be a ton of other applications. As Hatchet pre-warns it is in need of a cleanup and some documentation(!) but if you are interested in having a tinker then I suggest you check it out on GitHub.

I think @xembook and @XHarvesting – being the Python nerds that they are – can make use of this.

I intend to clean this up (along with the rest of https://t.co/lv13YVJtX9) and merge it into the /miscellaneous repository later down the line.

Complaints welcomed

If you have any feedback on and current limitations of Symbol and NEM, or you have some feedback for the team then this is the thread to post in. Constructive comments only, please! There have been a ton of distractions over the last few months with the Trust, forks, disbanding of NGL etc. Now that these issues are resolved I guess the setup of the new entities is underway and after that, it will be full steam ahead with development. I know that a lot of readers will be kind of annoyed that the websites are still in progress and maybe things haven’t progressed as fast as we had hoped but I always view this as a long game. Also, it is better to take some time and make something amazing than to rush something out. I expect over the next year we will see some real progress and there will be a lot of happy people, I am excited and yes I get impatient sometimes too 😁

Cool Keyrings!

Love these @_nononon__! The pirate keyring is especially cool along with the coloured Symbol one. Great to see so many items being made as a result of all of the brand assets being free to all to use for anything. I really like the Symbol mugs I printed 😁

Peersyst scandal

I wondered why there was a call not to use NEMBERart and now I know why. Apparently, Peersyst who made the site was also paid over $250,000 to work on the Symbol wallet and didn’t deliver a thing. Sure that must be some kind of theft or breach of contract or something. Anyway, the upshot is that money was taken from the core funds and is now gone forever so avoid anything Peersyst like the plague. DO NOT USE NEMBER ART!

Peersyst was paid 250,000 USD+ for the development of the Symbol wallet, but never delivered any work product(s). Our team reported them as unreachable. I confronted them a few months ago, and they fled.

I suspect they were involved with @FeelGood_NFT and previous management.

The thread also contains a lot of information on Garush and plans for the future. As I reported a couple of weeks ago the “Symbol Storage” code is there. Frontend apparently is taking a backseat to the wallet and explorer at the moment due to staff shortages, which as I wrote about yesterday should become less of an issue after a new hiring round in the new year.

It looks like @habingofit has uploaded a PNG using the new system already!

Looking for new XYM City residents

Looks like plans are underway to work out how XYM will be distributed to new users from @tsubasa_yozawa‘s quest. He has made a video on how to set up a Symbol wallet so that new users will be able to generate an address and receive their free XYM to get them started with Symbol and help grow our userbase and community.
