08 Aug Symbol blockchain news update – 08/08/21
Good morning everyone! Hope that you are all enjoying what’s left of the weekend! Here’s a short Sunday Symbol Blog news update, as usual if you have any stories then let *pleeeaaase* me know!! 😊
Scam warning!
OK, this is an important tweet so I thought I would share. As you should know by now NEVER SHARE YOUR PRIVATE KEY WITH ANYONE! If you do then they have access to your funds and basically you can kiss your XYM goodbye..
Here is a scam that was reported by @nuko973663 on Twitter and retweeted by @xembook – please don’t fall for it! Apparently the scammer is sending messages to accounts asking them to delegate to their node (in this case xymnode.fun). They ask you to click a link in the message and enter your private key on a webpage to start harvesting. Obviously this is a scam, they steal your private key and then steal all of your funds.
As a general rule of thumb, if someone spams your wallet with requests to harvest on their node then please ignore them. Even if they are not out to steal your XYM they most certainly are annoying and if we don’t delegate to them then hopefully these aggressive harvesting solicitations will stop.
#DontKillCrypto
Here’s an important tweet shared by @bestgoldangel please check out the original tweet as there are proposals to bring in sweeping changes in crypto regulation in the US. I don’t necessarily think that additional regulation is a bad thing but these proposals are. Please make your voice heard if you are a US citizen, even if you are not let’s share the f**k out of the original tweet and make sure that the world is aware of this.
This is why it is bad news for us.
And what starts in the US has the potential to be picked up and used by other governments in their upcoming crypto regulatory rules. So what you may think is someone else’s problem may end up being yours too.
Symbol in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript
Here’s an interesting tweet from @xembook. He says that Symbol development is focussed on development in TypeScript/JavaScript but actually his articles on Python development are far more popular. I guess part of the reason for this might be that there are more people that are familiar with Python and therefore have less of a hurdle to start developing on Symbol since they don’t have to learn another language.
I played around with some Javascript examples and found that the official Symbol documentation is far far better than the Python documentation so this may also be a reason that xembook’s Python guides are popular (as people can use the official documentation and examples if working in e.g. JavaScript).
Anyway, you should definitely check out xembook’s guides on Qiita and we have some of the English translations here on Symbol Blog!
School of NEM
Finally I will leave you with this post from @bestgoldangel which contains a translation of a School of NEM tweet. First a reminder that Symbol can be used as a private or public blockchain and allows hybrid setups which allow interaction of private chains with the public network. This makes it incredibly powerful for developers and businesses.
Also a reminder (from @SchoolofNEM) that Symbol is an entirely new technology, separate from NEM NIS1. It is the latest and greatest and we want to let the world know this!
Thanks!
Thank you guys for reading – we will be back again tomorrow with a news update (if I can find anything to write about – please help me out if you see anything!). Have a great Sunday! 😊
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
