04 Oct Symbol blockchain news update โ 04/10/21
Well it’s Monday again and I by the time I write the rest of this article this evening it will be my first day back in the office since 10th March 2020! ๐ฌ
I am sure some of you will be on a comedown from the euphoria of seeing XYM price go up over the weekend, makes a change doesn’t it? ๐ There is a long, long way to go on that front and hopefully you weren’t tempted to sell up at this price level. I’m in it for my retirement fund so we are not even a little close to that price point at the moment. I made the mistake of selling my Bitcoin in 2013 (to be honest I really needed the money at the time). I am not going to make that mistake again with XYM, patience is a virtue.
OK, so time to get started on another Symbol Blog update!
NFT-Drive
Thanks @cryptcoin001 and @RadioRa26841511. It’s great to see some English translations of the excellent work coming out of the NFT-Drive project. Fight the scammers
It’s great to see the community coming together to fight the scam that is going around at the moment. It seems that @mikan_xym is sending out warning messages to unsuspecting potential victims of the aggregate transaction harvesting scam. I hope that nobody else is tricked into this, spread the word far and wide and we can stop the scammer from stealing any more funds.
A reminder from me. You never have to send your funds anywhere to activate harvesting. You just need to go into the “Harvesting” tab in the desktop wallet, choose a node that you want to harvest on and then follow the instructions. You will just have to pay a small transaction fee and will never be asked to transfer funds. If you receive an aggregate transaction to sign that you were not expecting then just don’t sign it!
The student becomes the master ๐
This made me smile yesterday. XYM is now trading at a higher price than XEM which in my book should be the case. I am not getting excited yet though, I think it will be a long wait until XYM really takes off. It will depend on the new features being worked on by the team, greater adoption and obviously some bigger exchange listings. I am happy to sit back and wait and be happy that I am making some (at the moment small) income from harvesting.

@bestgoldangel always makes a great animation and this is no exception! In the recent poll from @Jaguar0625 you will see that the majority of the community are not on the XYMcity Discord channel.
Take Angel’s advice and get yourself over to the XYMcity Discord server and join in the discussion. This is where everything NEM and Symbol is discussed and the developers and wider team are active posters. It really is full of interesting information that you won’t want to miss!

I think if you are reading this then you probably agree with the sentiment of this T-shirt. I really need to get myself a Symbol tee. I guess when I am teaching university students in my day job I can do some subtle advertising ๐ Maybe this is a bit too conspicuous though ๐
XYM Harvest Monitor
I am a huge fan of the Telegram bot XYM harvest monitor. Once you link your Symbol address you will receive an update every time that you harvest and can also configure it to let you know if you receive any transactions to that account.
If you run your own node then it really is an invaluable tool to have as it will notify you if your node goes down for any reason and if a delegated harvester joins (or leaves) your node.
The tool always supported Japanese and English but now it also includes Russian and Italian so if you were waiting for this then now is the time to go ahead and install it!

Thanks for reading, I also want to issue an apology, I promised two things recently a guest post from Hatchet and a new website design and I haven’t delivered on either. I am hoping that by the end of this month the new website will go live but it is still a work in progress and I think that I will have to go back and sort out the formatting on around 120 articles which is going to be a real pain. Watch this space though, it will be coming!
