03 Feb Symbol blockchain news update – 03/02/22
Good afternoon all! It’s lunchtime here so I have just about enough time to get writing the 199th(!) Symbol Blog post.
Exciting times for Symbol and NEM!
Jaguar pointed this post out to me yesterday but it was too late for me to include it in the last update. Hatchet has been off on her travels, I think to a conference where she met with some big names in the crypto world to talk subChains, rollups and regulations among other things. Seems she also made the fatal mistake of drinking tequila – too many painful memories, I know I have gone too far when the tequila is flowing, it’s usually before I hit the karaoke or maybe the dancefloor 😁
Anyway. You can read the Discord post in full here but I will give you a few highlights:
- Rebirth and recruitment: wonderful! This is what I wanted to see – starting this month:
- A complete rewrite of both Symbol & NEM’s documentation – wasn’t this done recently?
- Finalisation of the JavaScript and Python SDKs. I can’t wait to see some more detailed documentation and examples for the Python SDK. As a complete novice I am a bit daunted by it so hopefully with some documentation I have no excuse to start experimenting.
- New website! I think that we have all been waiting patiently for this and I am really excited to see what it will look like.
- Redesign of the supernode system! Unfortunately, this won’t make any difference to me as I am not super enough 😭 BUT there will be an overhaul of the tokenomics (is this NEM only or Symbol too?). Will be interesting to see what happens, I guess this could be a controversial topic for some.
- Rewrite and redesign the existing desktop and mobile wallets! I am no fan of the current desktop wallet and I am not a mobile wallet user but I can image this is due an overhaul too. I am looking forward to this and I am sure that there will be discussions with the community about features and wishlists too so keep an eye out!
- Recruitment and market making – this is a big one for me. We need to hire and have the budget so hopefully with a bigger team covering the areas we are currently lacking expertise in we will start to see magical things happening and more quickly too
- Education and marketing – education is a good thing, if we can spread the word about what Symbol can do and provide guides and documentation for developers then hopefully we will start to see more and more being built on Symbol. Some basic guides for noobs like me would be nice too 😊
Looks like there will be a replacement statistics service and Hatchet is demanding that all pirate crew at all levels and disciplines are familiar with the basic functionality of NEM and Symbol technology.

I can’t wait for this! I really hope that the community vote for my preferred option 😂 To be fair it is actually winning at the moment but I won’t bias anyone by giving the game away – vote for whichever option you prefer!
Hatchet is aiming to get some community translations going as obviously they will be held in English which is kind of difficult when our largest user base speaks Japanese! Would be great to have this accessible to all. I will try to take some notes and write them up for the blog too.

This blew my mind! I assumed that it was a real strawberry but I think that it is a 2D illustration. This is some serious talent @yonyon76! If you want to own this in NFT form then get over to COMSA and place a bid! The current high bid is 5,555 XYM – surely worth a bit more than that no?
