03 Jan Symbol blockchain news update โ 03/01/24
Happy New Year everyone! ๐ฅณ I know that I was sloppy with my Symbol Blog updates in 2023 and so I really hope that I will be able to stick to my New Year’s resolution and provide regular updates in 2024 ๐
I missed so much at the end of last year that I thought I would start afresh with recent news and keep the blog updated. Otherwise, this would have been an epically long post that was a pain to write and a chore to read ๐
XYMPOSIUM
So the first XYMPOSIUM was a resounding success and I for one had a great time (despite a bit of nerves from trying to cram a 30-minute talk into just 15 – I think I just about pulled it off ๐ ). There were some really interesting talks and I think everyone had a good time. Hatchet, you really are the master of getting everything done last minute and making it seem like you have prepared a month in advance ๐
It was really nice to meet some of the faces behind the avatars, you guys are great and it is clear that you are incredibly passionate about Symbol and NEM. Also thank you to all of the community that made me feel so welcome and took me on a tour of some of the businesses in Tokyo that accept Symbol payment. I love that you can buy beer with XYM! ๐ Just to warn you I will be back next month and working in Tokyo so if anyone fancies a trip to Sandwich Factory or 22 Cafe one evening then just let me know!
There was a second community event held in Shinjuku at Crypto Lounge GOX which was a lot of fun. I also realised that I cannot pour beer from a tap – sorry for the poor excuse of a beer that I served you Hatchet – 60% head and 40% beer ๐บ. I had to get up to fly back at 6:00am the following morning but I hope that those of you who stayed behind partied into the night ๐

Once again, a huge thanks to the Japanese Symbol community – you are awesome! Nononon I think I need to buy some more Symbol swag when I am back next time ๐
NEMTUS Funding
Congratulations NEMTUS! You have worked tirelessly in 2023 to promote Symbol and NEM and it’s great to see that you have been awarded a grant from the Symbol Syndicate. Well deserved ๐๐๐ Can’t wait to see (and write about) your activities in 2024!
NEM/Symbol Advent Calendar
If you haven’t done so already then please take a look at the latest NEM & Symbol Advent Calendar on Qiita. I haven’t read them all yet (on my to-do list) but those that I have looked at have been excellent and are easily translated by Google. We filled calendar 1 and are on the way to completing calendar 2, You can still add articles even though Christmas seems like a distant memory so if you have something to contribute then sign up!
EXYM Wallet
I haven’t actually tried EXYM yet but I intend to install it before my next trip to Japan – everyone I spoke to seemed to be using it so it must be good ๐ It looks like it is available for both Android and iOS:
