04 Jul Tweet update 04/07/21
Good morning everyone! It’s time for the daily tweet update. We have a lot of tweets sent in today and I don’t have a lot of time to get through them all so I will get started..
NFTs
It’s everyone’s favourite subject at the moment, NFTs. Thanks to @DjCellBlock for translating this tweet from @TrendStream. So, I am sure that any of you that have tried to explain the concept of NFTs to someone who has no knowledge of crypto will be familiar with this. I see the glazed looks on people’s faces when I have had this conversation with them (maybe it’s just me though!). As soon as you mention some of the astronomical sales prices their interest is certainly piqued. This tweet outlines the protection of rights holders from infringement. This may be a discussion for a longer blog post in the future..
This is a great spot (and translation) from @SamiurR76186237. @nembear suggests that @nember_art credit artists if their work is resold on the platform and suggests that popular artists should not be asked to pay the the 50XYM registration fee. He argues that this would lead to a higher quality of NFT submissions. I am actually not sure how the submission or sales processes work on the site as I have never sold anything (unfortunately I have zero artistic talent!). Presumably the platform takes a cut of the sales fee? If this is the case then I totally agree that removing the fee for artists that have a proven sales track record would be good both the artist and the platform.
@schwab_leonardo sent this one in. Just a reminder from @nembear that you can view an artist’s previously sold work on nember.art by clicking on their username.
Let’s get techy 🤓
I look like this emoji in real life.. Thanks again @schwab_leonardo for sending in a translation of this tweet from @xembook. XEMBook suggests a “minimum commission value” of 25. I think that he is referring to the minFeeMultiplier decided by the node owner.
There has been a lot of discussion in recent weeks on fee multipliers set by nodes. See this recent tweet from @symbolico1. I adjusted my node settings to 10 after seeing his blog post!
SigAnn
Thanks @alediemmee for sending in this tweet from @nembear. He tweets that @xembook has started a series of articles on SigAnn, a new tool that he has been experimenting with. Apparently SigAnn is a tool built on Symbol that specialises in signatures and announcements. nembear says that he is really looking forward to read the continuation of the first article posted here. I am really interested in this so would love to post a translation on Symbol Blog, hopefully we will be able to provide one soon!
Other notable tweets
A flurry of submissions from multiple Symbol Blog regulars translating the excellent @SchoolofNEM (I am learning a lot from you!).
I have actually used Racoon Wallet in the past. It is a great mobile wallet for XEM and is in both English and Japanese.
Just a reminder that a Symbol mosaic can be issued without linking to a namespace. I learned this when creating FUCoin and messed up the total supply on my first attempt. Now I have a mosaic in my wallet that doesn’t expire but is not linked to a namespace.
I love NEMlog, I just hate myself for not being fluent in Japanese! The furthest I got with learning was Hiragana and Katakana, I gave up when I was faced with the grammar and Kanji. It is an amazing resource with a goldmine of content from our Japanese community. Google Translate really helps and usually you can pick up the main points of posts even if it is tricky to decipher the finer details! I suggest you go take a look at the site!
@TrendStream tweets about the strength of distribution of nodes and node/harvester numbers on the Symbol network. Thanks @Niashabid17!
And also on reporting features of Symbol. It doesn’t matter how many tweets and articles have already been written on a particular subject. Please continue to write about them! Everyone has a different take on the subject and may focus on different applications for instance. Therefore, keep writing, keep spreading the word and don’t worry if someone else has written something similar in the past!
One of my real hopes for this blog is that we can get some community members to really delve deep into some of the features of Symbol and be able to articulate this in a way that everyone can understand. Please let me know if you have the skills to write such an article. We can help with the writing, translation and presentation. We just need the knowledge!
Thanks for reading!
Hopefully some of you are still reading this! It was a longer post than I had expected to write and I still have a couple of tweets that were sent in that I didn’t cover (will get to these tomorrow!). Thanks to our regulars that have sent in tweets – I do appreciate you keeping me busy on a Sunday 😅.Once again, if you want to help us out here at Symbol Blog then we would love to hear from you and publish your articles. Just message us on Twitter and we will get back to you. We have people that can translate so you can write in your native language.
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
