01 Jul Symbol – what’s the big idea?
by the Symbol Community
Symbol the high-performance blockchain
I’ll start with a bit of context.. We all know that Symbol is a powerful platform and is capable of handling a large number of transactions very quickly. Before release the testnet was stress tested and maintained a consistent 200 transactions per second over many hours without any issues. We all remember Daruma monitor right?
Since the launch of the mainnet however, we have not seen anywhere near this level of usage and typically there are only a small number of transactions sent in each block.
It is a bit like owning a Ferrari and driving it at 30mph down to the shops and back. Low usage is to be expected for a 3 month old blockchain but we want to use it to its full potential! So how do we get people to make use of Symbol and drive up the number of transactions on the blockchain?
Community ideas
There have been many great ideas put forward by the Japanese community in recent weeks. I will keep this blog post short but hope to write some longer articles describing some of the ideas in more detail (and in English!). Here is an overview of some of the cool ideas in visual form for now though (thanks Ana M. for the graphic!).
You can learn more about the projects using the links below:

Plus we are picking up more and more ideas for Symbol applications all the time on Twitter!
Hopefully we will get to write about some in the near future. Maybe we will see some of these ideas built on Symbol, becoming part of our everyday lives at some point soon! 😊
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
