I wasn’t going to post today as I am crazy busy but there were a couple of important tweets that I wanted to draw your attention to so here’s a very short Symbol Blog update!

@Jaguar0625 is collecting feedback on community sentiment in a Twitter thread. It’s really important that you give your feedback and let those running the show what you think of NEM/Symbol past and present. Hopefully it can be used constructively to initiate change. Apparently this will be done every quarter from now on and so we will be able to see how community sentiment changes over time.

I have just completed the poll and the results so far (after ~550 votes) are really interesting.

1. How do you feel about #Symbol platform and technology? 66.5% positive
2. How do you feel about #NEM platform and technology? 53.6% positive
3. How do you feel about the performance of #NEM Group? 88.5% negative
4. How do you feel about the performance of #NEM Trust? 81.8% negative
5. How do you feel about the performance of #NEM Ventures? 89.4% negative
6. How do you feel about outreach to Japanese community? 62.6% negative
7. How do you feel about the changes and communication since July? 75.7% negative

The majority of respondents so far only hold XYM, are not on the Discord channel and are not aware of any of the companies invested in by NEM Ventures.

I think that is a resounding “could do better” but to me it also puts out some strong statements in that the community are really unimpressed about how things have been over the past few years with NEM Group, NEM Trust and NEM Ventures but are positive about the technology.

The outreach to the Japanese community needs to be improved and anecdotally I have heard from a couple of Japanese members that Discord is not helping here. With everything being posted in English and the lack of a translation function (unlike Twitter and webpages) it is really hard to communicate. I think we need some kind of automatic translation built into Discord so that our community can communicate more effectively with each other..

I was a little surprised that the changes and communication since July came out as a negative but I am not sure that the question was phrased so clearly. Things like the death of the NEM Official Twitter account (now resurrected) and lack of communication on the Trust negotiations and from NEM Group etc wouldn’t have helped here and may lead to a more negative response. However, I feel like the transparency of the current team and ability to see what is going on in terms of development (and outreach to the community) has improved dramatically.

New exchange listing

It’s great to see that XYM will be listed on Bitbank on October 5th. This is another Japanese exchange listing and hopefully more will be coming soon. There will be two trading pairs available: XYM/JPY and XYM/BTC.
