13 Sep Symbol blockchain news update 13/09/21

It’s Monday and I am in a state of panic after catching up with a week’s worth of emails 😬 Need a break from my day job so here’s a quick Symbol Blog update for you all!

Finalisation stalled..

So I don’t have too much more information on this at the time of writing other than it seems that finalisation stalled at block 518,400 early this morning my time. Many of you noticed this already..

The devs are looking into this now and I am not sure whether the issue is related to nodes not updating their voting keys or not (see yesterday’s news update). Will keep an eye on Twitter and Discord and provide an update when I hear more.

I learnt something new from the Discord chat as well. It seems that any node can vote. I thought that it was only nodes with >3M XYM balance but maybe this was just to receive supernode voting rewards (which I am not sure will happen now anyway).

If you have a large balance and own a node then it is probably a good idea to vote.

Hang on…

Haha, now I don’t know what to believe – is it a 3M minimum (as I first thought) or not? 🤔😆 Once I find out I will let you know!

Update:

Seems it is problem solved (or at least identified!).

Debugged! There are currently 15 nodes that have yet to vote in the current round; we need at least 8 of them to vote (or a total of 22.6M XYM missing in stake equivalence). We've contacted their operator. https://t.co/UyKoUd8k5N

Strange how some of the largest XYM holders are inadvertently harming the network, presumably by not maintaining their nodes correctly or trusting this to someone else to deal with 🙄 Hmm.. I have a well maintained node, just need the 3 million XYM now 😁

So looks like this will be resolved soon and as Hatchet said “the chain continues on”..

Quest board

Here is the quest function that I have been looking for (and what I thought ReQUEST would be).

“Quest board” will allow QUEST users to post a task for anyone to take on. Here’s a description taken from the author.

There will be two options for quests posted on the Quest Board:

1. “Open” – can be performed by many people at the same time
2. “Exclusive” – can be performed by only one person

You can also set the posting end condition:

1. “Frequent” – continues even after the approved performers are chosen (if it is within the post period)
2. “n shots” – ends when the set number of approved performers are filled

The requester will pay a creation fee. Fees vary depending on the number of days that the quest is posted (60 day maximum). The quest’s deadline can be set up to a maximum of 30 days and is not charged.

In the first implementation an “initial boost” will not possible. When using the secret lock function you can not send money without specifying the other party. This functionality will be considered but would involve a 2 of 2 multisig arrangement and there are legal implications to this which would need to be considered before rolling it out on the site.

I am really looking forward to this feature. I might become a QUEST bounty hunter 😁

Virtual Japan & new Symbol designs

This is a really interesting thread from @TrendStream on advertising Symbol in virtual Japan. I think that there is a @nembear quest here too which is aiming to put Symbol advertising up at all major stations in virtual Japan. If they map the UK then maybe I will start a quest to raise money for some advertising space there too 😁

Also we had a bit of a reveal from @0x6861746366574 on some other artwork in consideration and further confirmation that the new look website and a revamp of the branding is coming soon^TM. October will be a big month for Symbol I think..

If you can give us until the start of October, maybe we can draw some cool posters and street art for the virtual world!

Yes, the image you linked is one of the designs we are thinking of. We want to have a final version that matches the “comic” style of the rest of our art.

But we think the NEM colors + Symbol logo are the perfect match.
