Symbol blockchain news update โ€“ 21/04/24

Good morning XYM City! It’s Sunday already, so I hope that you had a good week and are ready to go again tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜ I am now on the countdown to my next trip to Tokyo on April 30th, I will be out for two weeks so if anyone is around and fancies a drink and a chat about Symbol then let me know. Radio I need to give you (well your baby) a gift so clear an evening in your calendar for some beers! ๐Ÿ˜

Quick Learning Symbol Update

The bible of Symbol developer guides has been updated for version 3.2.0 of the JavaScript SDK so if you are interested in playing around with Symbol then please give it a read. By the way, don’t be afraid, it is designed for newcomers to Symbol and programming in general – I highly recommend working through it.

Crypto Pi Touch

I do like this project ๐Ÿ˜Š It looks like Crypto Pi Touch can now be hooked up to a printer to print off transaction receipts. It may still be a little unwieldy for public rollout but actually, I think it would look pretty cool at a shop checkout – very cyberpunk ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I’ve Said it Before and I Will Say it Again – Maintain Your Nodes! ๐Ÿ˜

So, just a reminder people – check your nodes to see when the SSL certificate expires and renew if needed. It’s super simple to do and if you don’t remember then your node will not be valid and your delegates will be annoyed ๐Ÿ˜…

XYMFit

Live in Japan? Thinking of getting fit for the summer? If you answered yes to both then XYMFit is the app for you! I answered no to both but I will definitely check it out when it goes global!

NEMTUS Presents XYM-MONA Fes

So this happened yesterday (apologies for reporting late!). NEMTUS do an excellent job spreading the word and promoting Symbol. This event was held at Crypto Lounge GOX and was completely free (drinks and snacks included too!). Hopefully, the event was a great success and there were some interesting discussions. I will have to keep an eye out for events next month and pop along if it coincides with my visit.

Metal Viewer

This is cool! I have talked about Metal in the past – it lets you easily store data on-chain and then retrieve it using the unique Metal ID. It looks like wecanch has developed a web interface where you enter the Metal ID and it will display the data through a browser. You can check it out here. This just got me curious, I may see if I can pull back all Metal IDs from every transaction and see what you guys have been storing on-chain ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ – should be interesting ๐Ÿ˜ Perhaps I can make some stats too.

EXYM 1.3.0

EXYM has been updated to version 1.3.0 – here is a list of changes:

Design-related

  • Added a beta version of an NFT slideshow feature.
  • Added a rotation function that displays favorite designs at startup.
  • Added a beta version of a favorite frame expansion feature.
  • Changed the design color selection process to make the selected color visible.
  • Enabled setting an NFT as a profile icon.

Harvest-related

  • Added account names to the delegated harvesting screen.
  • Improved the message displayed when there is insufficient importance on the delegated harvesting feature screen.

Other

  • Added a new account creation feature.
  • Made other minor modifications.

I just updated but it seems now that it can’t communicate with any nodes. Maybe this is temporary, I will try again in a bit – is anyone else having this issue?

Ventus Wallet Update

Mikun’s Ventus Wallet has also been updated and he has included a new feature which allows users to send bulk transactions from multisig accounts. Ventus really can do everything! ๐Ÿ˜

Happy Birthday!

A late addition as I just spotted this on Twitter. Sandwich Factory are 8 today ๐Ÿฅณ Happy birthday guys – you have an amazing venue and some great food and beer. Hopefully I will visit again in the next couple of weeks. I would have bankrupt you tonight with all you can eat and drink for ยฅ5000 so you got off lightly ๐Ÿคฃ Have fun guys, looks like there is some Symbol geekiness going on – good work ๐Ÿซก

Thanks!

That’s me for today, just a short one as I need to get some housework done ๐Ÿ˜… Thanks for reading and I will be back again sometime next week with another update!

Oh, also thanks for your feedback on the SIP I posted about last week. Was great to see your views. If you have anything else you’d like me to include in a future blog post then please let me know!
