Symbol blockchain news update – 29/03/24

It’s been a while since I wrote two updates in one week but I couldn’t cover everything in my previous post. I waited a few days to pick up the rest of the goings on from the last few days and I should now be back up to date 😅

Finalisation is go

Earlier this week Symbol finalisation caught up and we are back to business as usual. It looks like disk space was the issue causing some VIP nodes to go down (too many on-chain NFTs guys or maybe it was the kittens that did it 😂).

Enrollment time!

It’s that time of the month again – if you are running a supernode (or want to start one) then make sure that you enrol your node for April otherwise you won’t get paid 😅

Your chance to talk to the boss

If you are building on Symbol then Hatchet wants to talk to you! This is a great opportunity for businesses and developers to ask questions and for the team to get a better understanding of what is being developed on Symbol and who is doing it.

Thoughts please 🤔

So after the finalisation stall, Jag is canvassing opinions on whether we actually need it at all. If you have something to say on the matter then please reply to this thread!

Happy birthday NEM!

I missed this but came across Mikun’s post this morning and realised that it was NEM’s birthday today – 9 years since block 1! That’s probably 90+ human years so happy birthday NEM. Maybe there will be a party for your 10th birthday 🎁 😁

Time to bond

As you may know, there is currently a 48-hour limit for the validity of aggregate bonded transactions, which, in the scheme of things is quite short – you need to get the cosignatories to sign the transaction within this time otherwise it will fail and the initiator will loose their 10 XYM bond. If you have comments/use cases supporting extending this time period or are dead against it then make them known!

CoinPocket Browser Extension

Wow, this is cool. I think(?) I covered CoinPocket in my last post but it looks like there is now a browser extension which is great news. Symbol’s answer to Metamask? I guess we will find out, Not sure if it is available publicly yet but I will definitely check it out when it is.

Voting closed!

The voting period for the NEMTUS Hackathon 2024 is now closed and the votes have been counted! I managed to get my votes in the nick of time and there were some really cool entries so go check them out here. I really should write some of them up for the blog so if I get time in the next couple of weeks then I will, until then I urge you to go have a look and test them out. I know some are hard to understand without being able to read Japanese but Google Translate definitely helps!

Thanks!

Thanks again for reading and have a great Easter break if you have one. I am a big fan of the chocolate eggs and having kids I am looking forward to the Easter Bunny visiting on Sunday 😂
