26 Apr Symbol blockchain news update – 26/04/23
Good morning XYM City! I just realised that I haven’t posted anything for a while so I may have to be a bit more selective with what I report on today and try to release more regularly in the future! 😁
New releases
I am sure you’ve already seen this as it is now old news but if you didn’t and you run a node then you will want to update it. The new version of Symbol Bootstrap can be found here. I really love the artwork on these notifications by the way – it is super cool!
Documentation
This is great news! There is now a comprehensive set of documentation for creating Symbol and NEM transactions using the Python SDK! This was something that I spent a long time working out for myself but now you can get started building without having to do so 😊 Just a reminder also that there is also a great guide to for using Symbol in Javascript created by XEMBook and translated into English by Radio “Quick Learning Symbol” so go check this out too!
Annual report
If you wondered why there’s been no Symbol Blog post for over a week then wonder no more, I have been working on the annual report! 😁 This is really important: if you have contributed to Symbol or if you think that there is something that we really need to cover in the report and may have missed then let me, or Hatchet know. We are putting together the report as we speak and will want to get a full draft in the coming days so time is running out!
We want to highlight the community and tell the world about what you have created and how you have come together to share your passion for Symbol. Many of you have devoted a lot of time and effort to the cause so let us know and you may be featured in the publication! 😊
And also, if you are an artist then you may want to consider creating your own content for the report – let Hatchet know.
UFOs
Feiton has been busy building and this time he’s built a claw machine! Unlike the arcade versions, I actually managed to pick up a couple of prizes on my first attempt. It is linked with SSS and you can cash out your winnings but unfortunately, I realised after that the Symbol account that I had linked didn’t have any funds in it so I am not sure what happens next – I assume that you will be issued your prize(s) as NFTs but someone can correct me if I am wrong! 😊
NEM monorepo
Just a heads up that there has been a bit of a reorg on GitHub and now the NEM project has been consolidated into two monorepos “nem” and “miscellaneous“. Details are below.
Iconic
This is amazing work @jpzart01! I see myself and my weapon of choice, I need to get some stickers made, this is going on my to-do list! Edit: Hatchet corrected me – the icons are one of the few things that are not released under a CC0 licence so they cannot be used without permission. They are still awesome though 😁
Vanity
Ooh, I will check this out later. I hacked together a homebrew vanity address generator for Symbol a few months ago but I was impatient and figured NINELIVES would take forever to get so I settled for NANINEDBABAJKTIKIDKLAMJTWIMMMTHO24LUCKA 😁 I am sure that Jag’s version will be a lot faster than my attempt at this so maybe it is time for me to try again for something better!
New SSS release

NEM supernode enrollment for May
Late news just in! The enrollment address for next month’s NEM Supernode programme has just been published – make sure you enrol or you won’t get paid in May!
