27 Mar Symbol blockchain news update – 27/03/23
Good morning XYM CIty! I am back with another quick news update and because there was no post last week I have a few stories to cover. Just a reminder if you do have any news or you would like to write anything for the blog then just get in contact!
Non est verum
Beware, it looks like there is another Symbol copy-and-paste blockchain out there and this time they have branded it “Veritise“. The website looks low-budget and it seems that they are selling tokens to the public. My advice – stay away. There is no mention of this being a Symbol clone on the website I am not sure if they have been misled by their team of “blockchain experts” at SUPER HOW who apparently are the brains behind the technology so I will give them the benefit of the doubt but this certainly feels fishy and probably against Symbol’s licensing agreement to package this up and sell it as their own technology.
Loyalty cards
This motor company are providing a loyalty points system using a custom Symbol mosaic. After a customer makes a purchase they set up a Symbol account for them and then credit points tokens which can later be redeemed at the shop. Hopefully, we will see more businesses offering these kinds of incentives in the future! 😊
Prize pool increases
The NEMTUS hackathon prize pool is increasing and it looks like another 100,000 XYM have been added! I guess if you were intending to submit to the Hackathon then you would have done so already. If you haven’t then I guess it is probably too late as entries close today at 23:59 JST! 😁 Good luck to everyone that has entered! Looking forward to see what you have built!
Jag does Japan
Just realised that this title sounds like an adult movie but I can assure you that I didn’t intend it to! 😅 I guess that Jag is back from his whistle-stop tour of Japan and it looks like he got around a bit whilst he was there! As a commemoration of the event Tresto created this stunning AI-generated piece of art which is now immortalised as an on-chain NFT using NFT-Drive. Love it!
I am looking forward to my trip to Japan in March for a family holiday. We are flying with a by then 3 year old so wish us luck!
The neverending journey
My word, he keeps on going! Level 1,876 and climbing! I wouldn’t recommend going to these lengths but The Tower is an excellent game that shows off many features of the Symbol blockchain so if you haven’t tried it you can play online here.
Education
Talking of The Tower, it is now being used as teaching material to get children interested in blockchain technology! OpeningLine Inc has been working with iTeensLab to teach children about blockchain and due to its popularity will now become a year-round event which is great news!
NFTs for foodies
Some more press coverage for Symbol, this time in relation to Food-NFT.io who held their second “Food NFT Eating Party” in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. You can read more about it (with the help of Google Translate) here.
New SSS release
Finally just a public service announcement to say that the latest version of SSS has been released so it’s time to update your plugin! 😊
Thanks!
Thanks for reading, I will be back with another update soon!
