26 May Symbol blockchain news update – 26/05/22
Eek! It’s been a long time coming but I think I have enough stories for another blog post! Sorry for the gap, it really has been a slow news week. I am sure that it won’t last, have a feeling that normal service will be resumed soon 🦾
Symbol Shop Point (SSP)
This is an interesting read and auto-translates fine so go have a look! It seems that as of yesterday a new points-based reward system has been implemented on the Symbol blockchain! It is a small-scale project at the moment but I really hope that we see it spread as Symbol payments continue to take off in Japan.
Symbol Shop Point (SSP) is a Symbol mosaic that you can earn and spend in any of the member outlets. It was already announced by 22 CAFÉ but other venues are joining the scheme now. The concept benefits both the customer (more choice on where to spend their points) and the venues (more incentive for customers to frequent each business). Obviously, it also benefits Symbol as it will lead to more visibility and more transactions. It’s a win-win-win!
Pieces of eight
If you are not living in Korea then unlucky. If you are then you will want to check out this competition! It looks like @Karriz_ is giving away silver and gold XYM coins as well as cold hard XYM! Just follow the instructions in the link (Korean residents only) and you could be in line for one of these great prizes (19 in total!):
- 1st place: 1 gold symbol coin + 1 silver symbol coin + 3,000 XYM (one person)
- 2nd place: Gold symbol coin 1 + 300 XYM (4 people)

Toss that Ham in the frying pan
I have no idea what Realm is but our old friend Mr Ham is back “advising” their team in some capacity. Hatchet has been kind enough to give some context on his past dealings and unethical practices. Judging by past performance and behaviour, I am pretty sure I would not want any advice from him 😬 PS – apologies for the Cypress Hill reference in the title. It was the first thing that came into my head when I read this!
New Symbol resource
It looks like there is a new Japanese Symbol community website on the scene. @knsho_atare has started nemxym.com featuring a bunch of useful information and links to Symbol projects. It also shows you where you can spend your hard-earned XYM in the real world 😊
Battle of the buttons
I don’t really understand these posts but it looks like some of our inventive community have come up with different methods for sending XYM at a touch of a button!
This method seems to work via a SIM card so can be used from anywhere!
It reminds me of those Amazon buttons that would order items when you clicked them. I never really saw the point of those but I am sure that there must be some cool applications for this tech. I think it is amazing that this is even possible and I really hope that someone more inventive than me can come up with some real-world applications. Symbol panic button maybe? 🚨 Ooh, Symbol swear jar 🤬 – I’d go broke pretty quickly 😁
Don’t worry, just build it
The Japanese legal system is a mystery to me but I know that there are concerns in the community that building certain apps that send, receive or give rewards in crypto might fall foul of the law there. This appears to be a barrier for developers who are scared of making something that either will get them or their users into legal or tax trouble. It is great to see that the team are there to help with these issues, hopefully it will remove the barrier that is currently stifling creativity and innovation in the community.
Rome wasn’t built in a day
And finally, a reminder. Patience is a virtue and Rome wasn’t built in a day. It takes time to build something magnificent so hang in there, don’t panic, the good times are coming. We will see XYM City rise and the more people that lend a hand, the faster it will happen.
