12 Apr Symbol blockchain news update – 12/04/22
Good morning everyone! It’s great to see that Twitter is hotting up and the community are starting to organise themselves. It looks like I have a fair few stories to get through today so I am going to make a start!
People power
Hatchet’s departure from Twitter came with a message to the community – Symbol and NEM’s success is in our hands. It doesn’t matter who you are, whale or minnow, we need you, and you need the rest of us. Only by being proactive and pushing these projects forward will we achieve recognition and legitimacy.
We don’t all need to be developers that can make amazing things on Symbol but we do need to contribute however we can. The more we spread the word about Symbol and its community the more people, developers, exchanges, and collaborations we will attract. It is hard starting out, we are new and we need to prove ourselves to the world. If we can pull together as a team then we can be one of the big players.
If you can write, draw, tweet, make videos, code or work to spread XYM as a payment method (or anything else besides) then we need you. Every holder of XYM and XEM has a vested interest in playing a part in its success. Don’t rely on others and don’t complain and demand. People power is what we are lacking and once we start to grow it will snowball. Let the team get on with their objectives and lend your support however you can.
The choices are clear – help out or we will get lost in the swamp of other coins and we will never get the recognition we deserve. We all know that Symbol is great but we live in our own little bubble which is invisible to the rest of the crypto community. If zero utility meme coins can organise powerful community followings then why, as a blockchain that genuinely has something to offer the world, can’t we do this too?
As Jag says it is time to sink or swim and yes we are going to need a bigger boat (I now want to watch Jaws) – let’s make this happen people!

Coordinate and focus
There is a new coordination channel on Discord, if you see a tweet from an exchange or anything where we can make ourselves known then post it here and let people know so that we can reply en masse. Being coordinated as a community is the way forward. I was really encouraged yesterday to see us come together and work as a team. This is not a short term thing though and we need to sustain increase our efforts.
Japanese Symbol forum
As part of this shake-up, the Japanese community have created a Symbol forum on GitHub which is linked with Discord – it is already quite active and is acting as a centralised resource for discussion and planning. If you speak Japanese then you should be joining this group!
Twitter stats
So these charts show me that we need to do better! The plot on the left shows the number of tweets (y) over time (x) with the Symbol price (in JPY) shown in purple. On the right, it shows the number of users tweeting about Symbol. As you can see there looks to be a correlation between Twitter activity and Symbol price – I don’t think that there are any stats and the timeframe is quite small so it would be nice to see how this plot evolves. I hope that we will see an uptick in the number and volume of tweets going forward and that the correlation between price and Twitter activity will be reduced.
The Tower updates
Toshi has been hard at work with even more updates to his excellent game The Tower! You can catch up on the latest changes (and they look to be quite significant!) here. We now have a system to convert “pebbles” into “ornaments” and each ornament has a rarity and unique attributes that will boost your character’s stats. There are also several other big updates so if you haven’t played then please stop reading and go check it out! If you have played then go back and see what has changed. I need to do this too as it’s been a while and I have been really busy 😢
This is turning into a hell of a game – really impressed by Toshi’s amazing work, he’s a real credit to the community 👏
Looking at The Tower channel on Discord it seems that he is moving away from developing the game and will instead focus on Symnity which will allow more Unity developers to integrate Symbol into their games. The Tower will act as an example of what can be achieved and the aim is to try to attract new developers to the community by providing them with the tools to interact with Symbol through Unity.
Controlling the metaverse
I saw some other tweets about this but didn’t really understand them as they were all in Japanese. It looks like there is now an English translation on Discord in the metaverse channel. I am still a bit fuzzy on the details but it looks like images displayed in the Cluster metaverse can now be changed by sending Symbol transactions or on other attributes such as listening for block height etc. It is really cool that these types of projects are happening and are building infrastructure and tools that are required for integrating Symbol into the metaverse.

Calling all artists
I wrote about this multiple times (a long time ago now!) but if you are a budding artist and want your work to be seen by thousands of people then you can contribute to the Symbol Docs site. Each of the panels below needs an image and it would be great to have the community provide these so get designing!
Virtual cherry blossom festival
Cluster has become huge in the Japanese community and I guess it is that time of year for cherry blossom festivals in Japan. It looks like the Japanese community came together to celebrate in the metaverse and it seems that there was a pretty good turn out too!
XEMgallery update
XEMbook has updated his XEMGallery tool to enable it to display oleh_mk‘s Ukrainian charity NFTs. Just paste in your Symbol address into the popup and it will display all of your purchased NFTs.
