25 Mar Symbol blockchain news update – 25/03/22
Very quick Friday post as there were a few news stories I picked up on today. I don’t have a lot of time so I better get started!
Listings and partnerships
It was only yesterday that BitFlyer listed XYM and already another exchange has joined the party. Trading is now live on Bitget – hopefully the floodgates are starting to open and we will see some more listings in the near future too!
Also, I have no idea what this is but it seems that MEXC and Symbol now have some kind of partnership 🤔
The details have not been released yet and the automatic Japanese translation is a bit clunky but it goes a little something like this:
“Major announcement. We are pleased to announce that @MEXC_Global is a well-known crypto asset in Japan. We are pleased to announce a strategic partnership with @NEMofficial. We aim to maximize synergies between our two companies in the digital asset industry and contribute to the global market.”
I will let you know more as soon as I find out myself but it sounds very exciting!

Renew your node SSL certificates
This is really important if you are a node owner. As you will have seen me write before, your node SSL certificates need to be updated annually and, as a lot of you started your nodes shortly after Symbol’s launch, that time is upon us. If you don’t update your certificates it will mean that your node will cease to communicate with the rest of the network and your delegates will all be very unhappy as they will not be able to harvest.
It is super easy to update your SSL keys using symbol-bootstrap. You just need to run symbol-bootstrap renewCertificates and it will take care of everything for you. You can find out more here – it took me maybe a minute to do when I updated mine.
If you are a node owner (or a harvester) that is wondering when your node certificates expire then check out Symbol Node List – the link is sorted by expiry date most recent first. It looks like ~25 nodes will be non-functional in the next 3 days if not updated so please check the list!
