24 Feb Symbol blockchain news update – 24/02/22
Well, I think we probably all woke up this morning with a sense of anger and dread. Maybe it is me getting older and losing my youthful optimism but damn the world has been a depressing place recently. I don’t want to bring anyone down any further so I am going to put on some super cheesy pop music, bury my head in the sand for the duration of this post and bring you the latest Symbol Blog update.
OK, one political tweet but it is from Gimre so I have to cover it right? 😁 I wholeheartedly agree with this. I did have the headline “Fuck you Putin” but didn’t want to offend anyone 😊
Generosity
So I really was shocked last night when my XymHarvestMonitor app popped up with a notification to say that someone had donated 10,000 XYM to the blog. It is acts of generosity like this that really make you appreciate how amazing our community is. Most of all it is a huge boost to know that people appreciate your work and that gives you a renewed spark of enthusiasm to keep going. I now know who the mystery donor was but don’t want to name them in case they don’t want me to 😊
As I covered in a previous post it is important to support those that are contributing to the Symbol ecosystem and I will use funds donated to the blog to support projects that I believe in.
Node certificates and voting keys
Two important points if you are running a node. First please check the expiration date of your node certificates. If these expire then your node won’t talk to the rest of the network and you and your harvesters will not receive any harvesting rewards. CryptoBeliever has some instructions on how to do this from the command line.
But ahikicoin has already added the expiration dates of all node certificates to his excellent Symbol Node List resource. I was going to suggest this but he had implemented it before I even had a chance to! 😁 Don’t worry if you are harvesting with me. I already have it in my calendar to renew my certificates in a few week’s time 😊
And if you are lucky enough to be running a voting node then please check the expiry dates of your voting keys and make sure that you update them when required. You can check this here.
Exploring the Symbol metaverse
I saw this on Japanese Twitter but I am not 100% who created it. I think (sorry if I got this wrong) that it is the brainchild of D_laplace666 and it seems to have just appeared from nowhere. I think that there is even a building mode so you can help design XYM CIty!
You may have spotted some familiar faces already and it seems that Hatchet and Leah joined the fun last night. Love the outfits! 😁 If I ever get time then I may make an appearance – keep an eye out 👀
