Ooh, it’s Friday already! Well, it’s Thursday night here but for many of you, it is Friday! Have been losing track of the days over the past few weeks but know for sure that I will be back to work on Monday ๐ฌ Oh well, have the weekend to look forward to first.
Live chat at CoinMarketCap
This is cool! There are now live chat boxes on both the NEM and Symbol pages on CoinMarketCap
I checked the Symbol page and it is looking a little sad at the moment.
I was going to post but then realised that my login is linked to my actual name and email address. Maybe I need to create a new account and make a few posts here. The NEM page has some more activity, I guess being on page 1 of CoinMarketCap gives you a lot more visibility and attracts a lot more shitposters too ๐ if you want to get into squabbles with moon boys and girls then it seems like this might be the new place to do so!
Team Symbol
I saw this post from @tsubasa_yozawa and apologies if I mistranslated but I believe that he is considering putting together a team (of developers?) and will pay their salaries in XYM. From what I can gather from the thread he is interested in integrating Symbol into his own business as well as developing new applications.
I like this idea, if I had the skills required, could speak Japanese and didn’t need to pay the bills in earth money every month I would be all over this opportunity! ๐
I am also massively jealous of your XYM holdings ๐ Unless I win the lottery I will never be lucky enough to own 27.25M XYM ๐ญ I would be happy with 1M – that is my goal but I am still a long, long way off.
Pseudonymity for all
This is a really interesting thread from Hatchet. I certainly like having some anonymity, I can write whatever I like here and nobody will know who I am and come to my house with a baseball bat ๐ Also I probably don’t want all of my work colleagues and collaborators to know that I write this crypto blog so being two cats in pirate hats with laser eyes is fine by me. I only became XHarvesting because that was the handle that Twitter gave me when I started my node and set up an account there. Maybe I need a better pseudonym of my own choosing.
Anyway, give the thread a read, it makes a lot of sense!
HODLing
If you haven’t seen Twitter or any of the price-tracking websites today then sorry to break it to you but you may be a bit poorer than you were yesterday and a fair bit poorer than you were last month. It’s the ups and downs, twists and turns, swings and roundabouts and joy and pain of crypto. I’m sure most of us have seen this many times before.
The moral of the story is HODL and you will be happy in a few days/weeks/months/years time. Just try not to get hung up on the short-term price movement. If you think long term then you will very likely be a winner. Take it from someone that bought Bitcoin in 2012 and sold in 2013 at a whopping 3x profit ๐คฆโโ๏ธ As I have been telling myself ever since I did need the money at that moment in time and probably would have sold way before it hit $1K+ so easy come easy go. Won’t be making the same mistake again – HODL is my mentality and I have never sold a single precious XYM.
Be a hero
So, details are a bit light on the ground at the moment but I am looking forward to seeing what comes out from @TheHeroesGame which will be built on Symbol. They already have a Discord channel in XYM City so pop along, say hi and ask questions! Really nice to see that they chose Symbol for their new venture!

@ahikicoin has released his new Symbol Node List app (the website is such a great resource by the way!). I would love to check this out in more detail and write about the features but I think it is Android only at present. I will be eagerly awaiting the iOS release! ๐
Bootstrapping
I had to double-check that I had the correct meaning of bootstrapping in this context. I haven’t used it in real-life, just my work where it means something different. Looking at Wikipedia it looks like it means something different in every discipline! ๐
So, the team will be building several applications this year that will be released as open-source to the community. We can then build on and adapt these to suit our own needs. The devs are basically giving the community blueprints demonstrating how things can be done with Symbol technology and using this knowledge and initial codebase the community will be able to build bootstrap applications. There, I used it in a phrase where I wasn’t talking shop at work, hope I got it right! ๐

If you have some good suggestions for naming the following updates and features of Symbol and NEM:
- “Symbol 2.0” (the Symbol that features subChains)
- “The merge” (the process of bringing NEM into Symbol as a subChain)
- “subChain”
- “mainChain”

Extra points for pirate related suggestions. Apparently, ropes and knots have been discussed but I was never in the scouts and don’t have an adventurous love life so wouldn’t know about these things ๐

Maybe I got this translation wrong but it looks like the lion that is @toshiya_ma is back to game development on Symbol after resolving some technical issues. I have reported on some of his work in the past and I am really excited to play the finished game. I feel like this year we will see some really cool stuff being built on Symbol, can’t wait!
