Symbol blockchain news update โ€“ 15/12/21

OK, it’s a short one today. This week has been a bit manic but I am slowly clearing my to-do list! ๐Ÿฅณ I also wrote a NEM Advent Calendar article last night to be released on the 18th but I am having second thoughts about posting as it is not a technical article. We will see, if it doesn’t go out with the advent calendar then it will definitely be on the blog at the weekend anyway (don’t expect too much from it though).

Symbol for Unity

This looks cool! I wish I fully understood the tweet but it looks like @toshiya_ma is working on a new bridge between Unity and Symbol. Once complete this will allow developers to easily integrate Symbol into their games. Items as metadata, in-game transactions, I am guessing there are a lot of applications here and potentially this could open Symbol up to a LOT of new users. Great work Toshi! I am very excited to follow your progress!

Also – I love the new avatar! ๐Ÿ˜€

Welcome new Symbol users!

@tsubasa_yozawa has started distributing the funds that were collected to airdrop to new Symbol users. 5,000 new Symbol accounts will be sent 20 XYM each to get them started on their Symbol journey. The users are selected at random and it looks like the first 100 accounts have been sent their XYM already! I hope this takes off and that a decent number of the new users are curious about learning more about Symbol. It is a really interesting experiment so I will be following what happens closely.

This could be a nice future article for me to write. If I follow the transactions of the 5,000 accounts we can see whether they made any transactions, sold everything or topped up their account by buying more XYM. Going to add this to my list of blog posts to make in the new year! Might give us a good idea of whether the project was a success.

Big blocks

Before you get too excited it looks like these were sent on the Symbol Testnet! ๐Ÿ˜ However, it does demonstrate what we might see when NFT-Drive starts to take off on mainnet. They are some juicy looking block rewards ๐Ÿ˜‹

What is good for the harvester is not good for the person using NFT-Drive I guess ๐Ÿ˜… Fees are going to cost a fair bit! I am guessing that there is a premium for sending all transactions in consecutive full blocks rather than it solely being due to the size of the transactions? Could there be a “slow” mode (for cheap people like me) where the transactions were fragmented and sent over a longer period of time?

Symbol cars

OK, I can’t tell you much about these tweets except for there are some really cool Symbol designed cars for a racing video game. Sorry, racing games really aren’t my bag I think(?) it might be Gran Turismo but don’t hold me to that. I love the designs though. Hopefully, the guy that made them is playing online a lot and people are getting to see the Symbol logo! Need to have an update to the new logo too – would love to see that happen!

QUEST in Russian

Looks like the QUEST website has been translated into Russian courtesy of @geranklim. If you’re a Russian speaker then there’s now no excuse not to be using QUEST! ๐Ÿ˜

Symbol Shitake ๐Ÿ„

A bit of fun to end today’s post. I love looking at Japanese Twitter and seeing the Symbol logo appearing on random food items. Here is a Shitake mushroom with the Symbol “Y”. I need to start putting some Symbol into my cooking. I like the idea of baking some Symbol related items, maybe in the new year (warning they will be hilariously bad).

Thanks

Thanks for reading – it was a short one today but once I spot some more news I will be back with another update! ๐Ÿ˜Š
