16 Nov Symbol blockchain news update – 16/11/21

Welcome to Tuesday’s Symbol Blog news update! Just a short one today as there’s not much on Twitter that is not related to the Harlock fork! I will try to post later in the week with some more news but it is likely that my house will descend into chaos tomorrow as my wife is away on a business trip and I will have my hands full looking after my young son 😁

Harlock fork update

Harlock is looking good! We have a strong majority supporting the fork so fingers crossed and barring any last minute dramas it looks like the Harlock fork will be successful! Time for another celebration later in the week! 😄

Symbol Blog goes shopping

Looks like us Westerners can get our hands on some Symbol swag too so I ordered a new T-shirt from Zoi Zoi and a one of Tresto’s hoodies – I went for grey in the end, maybe I should have got something a bit more colourful though 🤔

I didn’t actually pay for the items with XYM, I just couldn’t part with any and so I ended up using PayPal 😳. I can’t I am not sure when they will arrive but hopefully I will receive them in 2021! Looking forward to wearing these!

Community

I’m very glad to be part of the Symbol community, we have a strong foundation and lots of people that are passionate about the project. Of course Japan lead the way here but I very much hope that this enthusiasm will start to spread to other parts of the world in the near future. I agree with Oliver here that hype, short term pumps followed by huge selloffs is never a good thing for a community. We are in it for the long term and I am very hopeful about the future.

Despite there being many great #crypto ideas, the pressure for short-term gain has compromised many communities.

Passion for the idea is often no longer the driving force, which is a big mistake.

A bright future

Following on from this, I urge you to read Tresto’s thread on what Symbol doesn’t have currently. It basically highlights all of the cool things that are planned for the future or likely to happen before too long. The thread is in Japanese but it’s a simple auto translate.

I will just give a short summary to say that the restructuring, NEM becoming a subChain of Symbol, quadratic funding, Garush, Hermes, the new website, new explorer and all of the big global exchange listings are still to come. They will happen so there will be a lot of good news on the horizon. The forks have paved the way for this to happen and we really are just starting out here. We are lucky to have an amazing team of core developers who are determined to make their vision work. We as a community will do our best to support you and spread the word.

The new faces of Symbol

Loved this post from Zaif showing the new Symbol logo and artwork of the core devs, looks so much better than the boring old Symbol logo. I think that this is some kind of competition where if you trade over 10K XYM you are entered into a draw to win Kaika Coin (CICC) – I have no idea what this is 😆 Good opportunity to buy more XYM though and maybe receive some free coins.

Symbol Blog needs your help

I realised this morning that I’ve written over 150 posts since I started the blog! I do need some help to grow though so here’s a short wishlist, if you can help in any way then it would be greatly appreciated.

• It would be really nice to see some more likes and shares on Twitter – I work hard on the blog and it would be nice to see it grow. The more people that know about it the better so spread the word and you will also be helping to get more people reading about Symbol.
• If you have a Symbol related site then please consider linking to Symbol Blog, Google still doesn’t like us much at the moment as we are new so we need to show them that the site has some respect within the community.
• If you are a regular reader then please consider delegating to my node xymharvesting.net. To all of my current delegates and anyone that has donated in the past – thank you! It really does mean a lot to me knowing that you recognise my contribution 🙂
• We have featured a couple of guest articles recently and I would really love to publish some more.
