11 Nov Symbol blockchain news update – 12/11/21
I’m going to call this Friday’s Symbol Blog update but it will be published on Thursday evening whilst I have a bit of time. It’s going to be short but I wanted to post something on this historic evening.
Sailors may tell stories, but pirates make legends.
Well, the fork was accepted with an overwhelming majority vote 🥳 so it is out with the old and in with the new. What an exciting time to be a Symboler (we need a better collective name than this!).
I am writing tomorrow’s post pre-celebratory drink just in case I wake up with a sore head in the morning. Super happy that Cyprus passed and I am looking forward to doing it all again next week with Harlock. I have a bottle of Champagne chilling and my wife has no idea what I was talking about when I told her that we were celebrating tonight. She doesn’t need an excuse for drinking Champagne though 😆
I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone that updated their nodes, everyone that spread the word on Twitter, those that contacted node owners directly to ask them to update and of course to the captains that steered the ship to this new land. We were relentless, it was a real community effort and we did it! 👏👏👏 You all deserve a medal 😁
The funds are now transferred and the obfuscation of funds is no more – transparency has been the new ethos of Symbol and NEM and it really is what we needed. Here are the three accounts to keep an eye on.
And I loved this message included in the transfer. Let us make legends 💪🏴☠️
It’s up to us
Now the NGL voting nodes have been shut down so it is up to us as a community to keep the network and finalisation running.
If you have 3M+ XYM then you should be running a voting node. I heard chatter on Discord that in the future harvesters will be able to delegate voting power to nodes which should lead to an increase in the number of voting nodes as it will require a collective 3M minimum between node owners and their harvesters. I think that the finer details are still being worked out. I think this is a great idea and maybe my node will finally be able to vote one day!
