08 Nov Symbol blockchain news update – 08/11/21
I wasn’t going to post today, it’s been a crazy day at work and I was about to take a break from sitting in front of a computer but then thanks to Allnodes I decided I should probably write a short Symbol Blog update.
More forking drama..
So you have probably seen that Allnodes decided to roll back all NEM and Symbol node upgrades supporting the hardforks. Just to add a little drama to the process as we were starting to feel a bit more comfortable that the forks would get enough support. So we lost 500 Symbol nodes and 45 NEM nodes which have been rolled back to the previous versions. Seems ludicrous to upgrade, and then downgrade, and then ask customers to upgrade if they want to support the fork. Why not upgrade by default (as they did) and then just ask customers if they want to downgrade? More drama, more hassle, that’s what we have come to expect I guess 😁 I still liken the NEM/Symbol world that we live in to a soap opera. So much drama. I generally like a quiet life and I probably shouldn’t be in crypto 😂
On the plus side apparently there will be a button added to your Allnodes dashboard that will allow you to upgrade your node (yet again) if you want to. I am sure that 99% of customers will upgrade again. It’s all a bit of a joke really isn’t it? I guess the one saving grace is that they didn’t decide to do this on Friday and we all have a bit of time to sort it out. Please no more events like this, fingers crossed everything goes smoothly from now on 🤞
Ah, here we go – this is what the button will look like on your dashboard:
I always get jealous of those that can afford a voting node, unfortunately I am a very long way off 😁 But, if you do have more than 3M XYM then you can enable voting on your node and it should be super simple to set up so do it!
As a final comment on this, if you have an Allnodes account then maybe consider actually hosting your own node independently. It isn’t hard to do and it will save us all from being at the mercy of one company when it comes to these kind of events. It isn’t a great position to be in.
EDIT: Just seen a very similar comment from Hatchet
Where does this leave us currently?
Well it looks like we still have some way to go on both fronts.
Harlock
Cyprus
I am sure we will do it in the end (we have to) but it’s going to take a big push over the coming days because we still have a long way to go according to these estimates. We need Cyprus to pass the support levels by Friday this week too so there really isn’t long left – please upgrade and please get the word out. If you are harvesting on a node that does not support one of the forks then please consider switching to one that does if you are pro Pirate fork. We have the power to make this work but we need to be proactive and really push for it.
Some people are just dicks
Co-founder of the new foundation because they own a lot of nodes? 😂 I despair..
Thanks
That really is it for today, I would bring you more news but I think that Twitter is obsessing on the forks right now and I didn’t see a lot of other stories. I am sure I will be back soon with some updates though 😊
I’m a Symbol and NEM enthusiast and run this blog to try to grow awareness of the platform in the English-speaking world. If you have any Symbol news you would like me to report on or you have an article that you would like to publish then please let me know!
